Atmore Christian School’s varsity boys basketball team gained 2 wins last week as the Rams defeated S.L. Jones, 54-49, Tuesday, December  and Alethia, 66-22, Thursday, December 9. With the 2 wins, the Rams now boast a season record of 3-4 and league record of 2-0.

According to ACS head coach Tim Battles, the 2 games were big wins for the school and helped gain much-needed ground within the league.

“I am proud of my guys,” Battles said. “They played extremely hard against two good teams. Last week’s game against S.L. Jones was fun to be a part of. It was an exciting game from the start to the end. Against Alethia, we just held our ground and worked on a number of different things. Alethia is a really good team, but they are having a rough time rebuilding currently.”

With the wins, senior Caeden Battles inches even closer to breaking the ACS all-time scoring record. Currently the record stands at 1,402 points. Battles currently has 1,361 career points and needs 41 more points to tie the school record and 42 points to break it.

During last Tuesday’s game against S.L. Jones, Battles led scoring with 16 points, Gage Gades and Emmett Battles followed with 12 each, Titus Dean scored 8 and Silas Albritton scored 6.

On last Thursday’s game against Alethia, Battles again led scoring with 21 points, Albritton and Gades followed with 12 points each, Dean scored 11 and E. Battles scored 10.

Coach Battles said that in addition to Caeden’s leading scoring performances, at least 4 other players are averaging 7 or more rebounds each game.

The Rams will next travel to face Escambia Academy Thursday, December 30, at 6 p.m.
