Both Escambia County High School varsity boys’ and girls’ basketball teams defeated the Flomaton Hurricanes last Friday, December 3, on the road.
With a 61-48 victory over Flomaton last Friday, the Lady Blue Devils stand undefeated so far this season with a 7-0 record.
According to head coach Keyon Thompson, the team has learned to play through adversity and has worked out the right times to attack their opponents.
“We are fortunate to have a blend of senior leadership,” Thompson added. “On top of having senior leadership, our youthful players are eager and willing to compete. Flomaton came out ready to play, but our girls kept their composure and withstood the challenge.”
Deandria Adams led scoring for the Lady Blue Devils with 26 points. Jayla Adams scored 23. Makayla Lyons scored 7, and Timia Gaines scored 5 points.
With wins against the Hurricanes, the Blue Devils teams are preparing this week to appear in the Escambia County Basketball Tournament at T.R. Miller in Brewton. The tournament will begin this Thursday, December 9 and run until Saturday, December 11.
ECHS’s Sheldon Williams registered a 30-point game, to help lead the ECHS varsity boys’ team past FHS, 60-49. Conner McPhearson added 14 points, Hakeem Johnson added 11, Kaiden Arnold score 3 and Stephen Williams scored 2 points. With the win against Flomaton, the Blue Devils varsity team improves to a 5-2 season record.
However, the ECHS varsity boys team was not the only ones to stand in the victor’s circle this past week.
