The Northview High School Chiefs earned yet another great win last Friday night, November 5, in Bratt against the J.R. Arnold High School Marlins. The Marlins, a 5A, traveled all the way from Panama City Beach. It was a great game, and now the Chiefs will advance to playoffs. The final score was 49-27 and it was definitely a game for the books!
The Chiefs started off strong with sophomore Wyatt Scruggs getting an interception. Shortly after, the Chiefs scored a touchdown, bringing the score 6-0 early on in the first quarter.
The Marlins drove the ball down the field and eventually scored a touchdown. Their extra point was good, putting the Marlins on top, at 7-6.
In the second quarter, Northview scored another touchdown and did a 2-point conversion, bringing the score 14-7. The Marlins then received the ball in a kickoff and drove it all the way down the field to score a touchdown. They went for a 2-point conversion, but it was no good, which brought the score 14-13.
Shortly thereafter quarterback, Kaden Odom, a junior, passed the ball to junior Aiden Broadhead.
Northview really turned up the heat when senior Logan Misenar sacked the Marlins’ quarterback! Then, junior Jamarkus Jefferson ran the ball into the endzone for a touchdown, and the extra point was good, bringing the score to 21-13. The Marlins scored again, and went for 2 points, tying up the score, 21-21, at the end of the first half.
To start off the second half of the game Odom ran the ball in for a touchdown, and Northview earned the extra point, which brought the Chiefs up 28-21. The Chiefs were not ready to stop yet and Jefferson got another touchdown shortly after. Kicker Brandon Ferguson kicked the extra point, bringing the score to 35-21. With a little over 1 minute left to go in the third quarter, Scruggs got his second interception of the night.
Luke Bridges started off the fourth quarter with a touchdown. The Chiefs kicked for the extra point and got it; the score was then 42-21. Arnold was not ready to give up quite yet, and they scored, brining the score 42-27. The Chiefs got the ball back and Bridges ran it all the way to the 43-yard line. Aron Chavira the received the ball. That was a big play for the Chiefs, considering he is not a receiver. After that, Northview earned their last touchdown of the game, which brought the final score 49-27.
This was a big game for the Chiefs, and a great game to watch. It’s been a big season for Northview, their record is 5-4 going into the 1A playoffs. They are currently on a 3-game winning streak. Next week they will face Bozeman of Panama City in the first round of playoffs.
