Calvin Raymond McCall

McCall

Mr. Calvin Raymond McCall, known to most as C.R., age 95, passed away Monday, October 4, 2021. He was born in Atmore, Ala. to Thomas Joseph and Lucille Walker McCall.  He was an avid outdoorsman.  He loved hunting and shooting.  He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Oak Grove, Fla. where he lived. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward McCall and Wayne McCall. 

Mr. McCall is survived by his loving wife of nearly seventy years, Ann Graham McCall; his children, Eric (Donna) McCall, Lisa (Mike) McCall; two sisters, Erlene Pugh and Norma Taylor; his special grandchildren, Erin (Jeremi) Pritchett, Jessie McCall and Reid McCall and two great-grandsons, Jase and Tucker Pritchett. 

Graveside services were held Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Oak Grove with Bro. Larry Gilley officiating.  Interment followed at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Leonard Monroe Purvis

Purvis

Mr. Leonard Monroe Purvis, age 68, of Atmore, AL passed away Monday, October 4, 2021 in Atmore, Ala. He was born in Mobile, Ala. to the late Kellum Monroe and Helen Lorine Chandler Monroe.  He retired from the Alabama Department of Corrections and also served with the Atmore Police Department. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, an airplane pilot and a gunsmith. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Mr. Purvis  is survived by his wife of forty-eight  years, Miriam White Purvis; his son, Michael (Amy) Purvis of Pensacola, Fla.; his daughter, Amanda (Josh) Quinley of Atmore; his brothers, Donald (Debbie) Purvis of Mobile  and  Doug (Charlotte) Purvis of Atmore; his sister, Shelia (James) Helton of Perdido, Ala.; his grandchildren, Bradley (Brandy), Allison (Bradley), Dylan, Elizabeth, Emma, McKenzie, Gage, and Sarah Kate; and great-grandchildren, Conner and River, along with many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. 

Funeral services were held Friday, October 8, 2021 at  Noon at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Josh Long officiating.  Interment followed at Serenity Gardens in Atmore. 

Active pallbearers were Michael Purvis, Doug Purvis, Bradley Crenshaw, Bradley Homan,  Josh Quinley,  Aaron Purvis,  Heath Fillmore, and Jeremy Lisenby. 

Honorary pallbearers were Wallace Byrd, Freddie McCall, Dan Lambeth, and Steve Jernigan. 

The family received friends Friday, October 8, 2021 from 10:30 a.m. until service time at Noon at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Thurza Harris

Mrs. Thurza Harris, age 93, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021 in Uriah, Ala. She was born in Atmore, Ala. and has resided most of her life in Uriah. She retired from Vanity Fair Mills Company with twenty plus years with the company. She was a member of Mineola United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Calvin (Laura Boone) Godwin; husband, Marshall B. Harris; sister, Iris Peavy; two half-sisters, Vivian McCormick, Margaret Davis; two brothers, Charlie Godwin, and Jake Godwin.
Mrs. Harris is survived by her two sons, Larry (Cathy) Harris and Joe Dale (Diane) Harris, all of Killen, Ala.; two daughters, Laura Jean (Charles) Baggett, of Uriah and Karen (Gene) Arnold, of Mobile, Ala.; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Weatherford Cemetery with Rev. Lester Peavy and Bro. Anthony Norris officiating.

Emma Nell Phillips

Mrs. Emma Nell Phillips, age 73, passed away Monday, October 4, 2021 in Brewton, Ala. She was born in Eliska, Ala., but resided most of her life in Huxford, Ala., with her husband and children. She valued the time she spent with her family especially her grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother who enjoyed fishing, word-find puzzles and her dog, Shorty.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 8, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC. Burial followed at Phillips Cemetery.
The family received friends Friday, October 8, 2021 at 9 a.m. until service time at 10 a.m.at Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC.

Belinda Kay Gohagan Wooten

Mrs. Belinda Kay Gohagan Wooten, age 66, of Bratt, Fla., passed away Monday, October 4, 2021. She was born in Bratt. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence “Buck” Gohagan and Mable West Eicher; her son, Chad Wooten and her brothers, Mike Gohagan, Eric Gohagan and infant baby brother. 

Mrs. Wooten is survived by her husband, Joe Frank Wooten; her step-mother, Regina Gohagan; her children, Brad (Lyn) Wooten and Shane (Heath) Fillmore; her siblings, Anthony Hall, Larry Gohagan, Emily DeRidder and Kristen Branch; her grandchildren, Casey Lane Wooten, Cade Wooten, Brooke McGhee, Trey McGhee, Kelton Wooten, Daylon Wooten, Brandy Wooten and Raylee Wooten and her great- grandchildren, Emerie, Kailen, Brynlee, Kynleigh, Knox, Hutson, Mckenna, River, Aubrey, Korbin, BK and Kaycelyn. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Steve Breceda and Bro. Josh Long officiating.  Interment will follow at Bratt-Godwin Cemetery in Bratt.

Willie Ray Thomas

Mr. Willie Ray Thomas, age 74, passed away Wednesday October 6, 2021 in Mobile, Ala. He was a lifelong resident of Century, Fla. He was a member of the Century First Baptist Church, Century Masonic Lodge #213 and Scottish Rite. He loved Dirt Track and Snowball Derby Racing. He loved spending time at the camp, Hubbard’s Landing and fishing with his friends. He loved the grand dogs, Partner Toby, Tory, Bama, and Bailey

He was preceded in death by his parents, Verbie (Irene Hollingshead) Thomas.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Gail Thomas, of Century; two sons, Chris (Angie) Thomas, of Bay Minette, Ala., Samuel Thomas, of Pensacola, Fla.; one daughter, Allyson (Brandon) Sharpless, of Mobile, Ala.; one brother, Benjamin C. (Mack) Hollingshead, of Foley, Ala.; three sisters, Lula Graves, Hazel (Speedy) Brantley, both of Flomaton, Ala. and Lorraine (Richard) Stuckey, of Atmore, Ala.; two grandchildren, Cody Thomas, and Zachary Thomas; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 11, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC with Rev. David Boyette officiating. Burial will follow at Lambeth-Boutwell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, October 10, 2021 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC.

Dorothy Marie Watts

Mrs. Dorothy Marie Watts, age 64, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2021 in Brewton, Ala. She was born in Atmore, Ala. and resided most of her life in Pollard, Ala. She was a proud member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. She valued her time spent with her children and family. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, going to the creek swimming. She was a loving wife, sister, and a friend to all.

She was  preceded in death by her parents, John O. (Lillie Mae Colbert) Kelley Sr. and one sister, Barbara Gene Nowling.

Mrs. Watts is survived by her husband of forty-three years, Larry Watts, of Pollard; two sons, Owen Casey Watts, of Pollard and Larry Watts Jr; of Pensacola, Fla.; three daughters, Meagan Marie Watts, of Opelika, Ala., Tabitha Moreland of Brewton and Mandi Manning, of McCall, Ala.; three brothers, John Oliver (Donna) Kelley Jr; of Brewton, Douglas Edward Kelley, of Poarch and Tony (Teresa) Rolin, of McCall; four grandchildren, Hayley Watts, Dustin Watts, Braxton Manning, CJ, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 8, 2021 at 3 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC with Rev. Ray Ward officiating. Burial followed at Pollard Cemetery.

Troy Moore 

Mr. Troy Moore, age 82, of Flomaton, Ala., passed away Monday, October 4, 2021.  HE was a genuinely kind, generous and loving man who never had an unkind word and just his presence alone brightened wherever he was and whomever he was around. He was an army veteran who served our country bravely in the Korean War.

He was proceeded in death by his brother, Beverly Moore.
Mr. Moore is survived by his long time confidant, companion and closest friend, Wanda Gaudet of Flomaton, Ala. and his fur baby daughter and partner in crime, Rosebud Moore-Gaudet. She will forever and always be his singing partner; two sisters, Mary Edith Radar of Hartford, Ind. and Eva May Maggard, of Marion, Ind. He is also survived by some family members that were not blood-related but he chose them to be a part of his family, adopted son, Phillip Scott and adopted daughter, Ginger Corley, all of Flomaton and longtime family friend and adopted brother, Edward Knowles of Flomaton.

Troy Moore was as good a man as this world has ever known and will be missed deeply by anyone privileged enough to have known him, thank you Mr. Troy Moore for simply being you. We love you and we’ll miss you much more than words can convey, until the day we see you again in heaven, God bless you!

Roy Junior Nall

Mr. Roy Junior Nall, age 78, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021 in Jay, Fla. He was born in Huxford, Ala. and was a lifelong resident of the Bay Minette, Ala. area. He was an avid Alabama Football Fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Minnie Nall and one sister, Myrtle Wyihoskie.

Mr. Nall is survived by his four sons, Danny (Sandra) Nall and Rodney (Teri) Nall, all of Atmore, Ala., Gerald (Kim) Nall and Ronald (Jennifer) Nall, all of Goodway, Ala.; two brothers, Bobby (Glenda) Nall, of Excel, Ala., Doug Nall, of Stockton, Ala.; four sisters, Earline Bryan Catherine Norwood and Yevonne (Jack) Wright, all of Atmore and Pauline Bayles, of Saraland, Ala.; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren other relatives, and friends.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Sardis Primitive Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Chris Pruitt officiating.

Michael Welker

Mr. Michael Welker, age 62, of Niagara Falls, N.Y., formerly of Perdido, Ala., passed away Monday, October, 11, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, N.Y. A native of Perdido, he was a graduate of Douglasville High School in Bay Minette, Ala. He was a self-employed mechanic.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Shiloh Cemetery in in the Nokomis Community with Pastor Danny Stevens, Pastor of The Potter’s House Church, Bay Minette, officiating.

Zaphine Jones

Mr. Zaphine Jones, age 42, of Atmore, Ala., passed away suddenly Saturday, October 9, 2021 in Atmore. A native of Atmore, he was a 1998 graduate of Escambia County High School. He

enjoyed cooking and was a New Orleans Saints and Alabama Crimson Tide fan. He worked as a laborer at Coastal Grower Peanut Co. and had worked as a laborer at Masland Carpets in Atmore and Alto Products. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mareese Danette Witcher; his father, Bobby Jones; his maternal grandparents, Clareese Witcher and Alfonso Witcher; his paternal grandparents, Katie Lee Williams and Willie Jones.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Loren Knight of Atmore; one daughter, Tatiana Dailey of Atmore; one son, Justin Knight of Atmore; one special aunt, Brettaschneider Staples of Atmore and a host of cousins and friends. 

The family will receive friends Friday, October 15, 2021 from 2 until 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. at Empowerment Tabernacle Christian Center- Atmore with Bishop Darryl North host Pastor and Rev. Willie Hawthorne, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Stallworth Cemetery.

Mary D. Finklea Moody

Mrs. Mary D. Finklea Moody, age 59, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Mobile Infirmary, Mobile, Ala. A native of Atmore, she attended school in Escambia County, Ala. and she worked in housekeeping at various hotels Days Inn, Hampton, and Courtyard Marriott, William F. Green Veteran’s Home, and Standard Furniture. She was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide and Miami Dolphins’ fan.

She was preceded in death by her father, Curtis Finklea, Sr. and her brother, Curtis Finklea, Jr.

Mrs. Moody is survived by her husband, Timothy Moody of Atmore; two daughters, Shemecka Finklea and Shaforya Williams, both of Millbrook, Ala.; one son, Eddie Montgomery, Jr.; her mother and step-father, Bessie and Joe Richard Hill of Atmore; eight sisters, Annice Mims, Annette Johnson, Diana Finklea, Melissa Smith and Angela Armstrong, all of Atmore, Jeanette Meggon of Foley, Ala., Jeanell Walker of Bay Springs, Miss., Cassandra Sanders of Villa Rica, Ga.; one brother, Tommy Finklea of Pascagoula, Miss. and four grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Stallworth Cemetery with Prophet Shawn Williams officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 15, 2021 from 2 until 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Willie Howard Lyons

Mr. Willie “Bay” Howard Lyons, age 90, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, September 30, 2021. He was born in Pineapple, Ala., to the late W.C. and Bertha Lyons. He retired from Daniel Construction/Monsanto. He was a member of Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ola Mae Lyons and one brother, Elijah “Pineapple” Lyons

Mr. Lyons is survived by two daughters, Gloria Brown of Atmore and Sylvia (Raymond) Spears of Covington, Ga.; one son, Steven (Jackie) Brown of Atmore and nine grandchildren, Tiffany Dyer, Tawanna (Damien) Mosley, all of Pensacola, Fla., Frankie (Charles) Daughtry, Jennifer Lambert, Perris Wiggins, all of Covington, Ga., Lakeasha Brown of Victorville, Calif., Richard Dyer Jr., of Atmore, Sharlita Brown of Hawthorne Calif., Catrina Brown of Long Beach, Calif. and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Pierce, Rabb-Montgomery Cemetery, Freemanville, Ala., with Pastor Gregory Sanders, officiating.

Pallbearers were Raheem Dyer, Ahmad Dryer, Delarrian Poole, Jr., Zamir Dyer, Monty Brown and Sherron Parker.

Cotina Monique Felder

Ms. Cotina Monique Felder, age 46, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, October 2, 2021 in Brewton, Ala. She was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y. to Carlie and Clinton Felder, Jr. She was a 2001 graduate in Atlanta, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her father; sister, Teoria Felder; grandparents, (Maternal) Henry and Dora McNeal, (Paternal) Ima Lee Dortch and Clinton (Bo) Felder; Uncle, Edward Lewis McNeal.

Ms. Felder is survived by her mother, Carli8e Felder; brothers, Antonio (Qyrteria) McNeal, of Alabaster, Ala., Timothy (Lashay) Felder of Huntsville, Ala.; eight uncles; seven aunts; two great-uncles, Larry Mitchell of Atmore and Earl (Rose) Carter; four nephews; three nieces; one devoted niece, Tenoria Felder of Atlanta; two great-nieces and a special friend, Katoria Brown; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Holy Community Center with Elder Irma J. Wilson, Pastor and Rev. Mary Deese, officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tony McNeal, Rodney Richardson, Willie McNeal and friends.

Flower bearers were family and friends.
