Mrs. Carol Levane Vickrey, age 80, passed away Friday, August 27, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence F. Vickrey; mother, Estelle Parmer Reynolds; father, William Ollie Parmer.

Mrs. Vickrey is survived by her daughter, Carol (Earl) Rodgers; son, Kevin (Suzanne) Vickrey; brothers, Gerald (Patty) Parmer and Olen Parmer; grandson’s, Hunter L. Vickrey and Michael (Kendall) Sanderson; granddaughter, Amanda (Keka) Sanderson.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Highland Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Calhoun officiating. Burial followed in Highland Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family received friends at 1 p.m. prior to services at the church.

Pallbearers were Brannon Parmer, Damien Sanderson, Randy McCauley, Hunter Vickrey, Michael Sanderson, and Paxton Hobbs.

Mr. Jimmy Landon Nelson, age 70, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021 in Flomaton, Ala.
He had resided most of his life in Century, Fla. He was an auto mechanic for years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dud (Flossie) Nelson; one brother, Freddie Nelson; one sister, Linda Wiggins.
Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife, Catherine Nelson of Flomaton, AL; one son, Zack (Lacy) Nelson, of Brewton, AL; two daughters, Amy Walston (Jeremiah) of Flomaton, AL; Amber Nelson (Dennis) of Century; two brothers, Melvin Nelson and Tommy Nelson, both of Century,; brother-in-law, Randy Wiggins of Century; two sisters, Terry Campbell (Robert) of Flomaton, Ala.; Mickie Stokes (Joe) of Gautier, Miss.: eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC with Rev. Tim Floyd officiating. Burial will follow at Crary Cemetery.

Louedna Plant Bass

Mrs. Louedna Plant Bass, age 67, passed away Friday, August 27, 2021, in Atmore. Ala. She was born in Atmore, Ala. and has resided in Bratt, Fla. her entire life. Louedna was a wonderful mother and grandmother, “Granny’ as she was affectionally known was happiest when playing games and laughing with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed music, playing the piano and autoharp, gardening, crocheting, and fishing on the Pensacola pier and her cats. She valued education greatly, overseeing her boys schooling in their early years. She was so proud of them as they grew into the successful men they are today.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pellar and Beatrice Plant.

Mrs. Bass is survived by her loving husband of forty-eight years, Donnie Bass; two sons, Joe (Tess) Bass of Shalimar, Fla. and Jeremy (Sarah) Bass of Spanish Fort, Ala; six grandchildren, Sam, Hunter, Hurley, Carver, Ansley and Riley; one sister, Lois (Leon) Chavers of Davisville, Fla; two brothers, Pete Plant of Bratt, Fla. and Mike (Wanda) Plant, Dunnellon, Fla; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at 3 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC, with Pastor Josh Long officiating. Burial followed at Godwin Cemetery.

Patricia Arrington Conway

Mrs. Patricia Arrington Conway, age 81, passed away Monday, August 30, 2021. She was born in Frisco City, Ala. She was the third among seven children. She was a native of Bay Minette, Ala. and a well-known member of the Pine Grove community. She loved two things above all else: Jesus and her family. An active member of Southside Baptist Church, She and her husband led the Married Adults Sunday School class for many years. When they weren’t with their church family, they were raising their children and grandchildren to have a personal relationship with Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Montez Arrington; her oldest daughter, Pam; her beloved husband of fifty-five years, Autry; her sister, Agnes; and her brother, Charles Vernon.

Mrs. Conway is survived by her children, Wendy (Robert) Davis, Anthony (Susan) Conway, Joseph (Gina) Conway, and Benjamin Conway; ten grandchildren, Carrie (David) Lowery, Paul (Tracy) Davis, Joshua Conway, Brandon Conway, Matthew (Donna) Conway, Kala (Brian) White, Jessica (Adam) Mizell, Hannah (Tony) Palombo, Dakota Conway, and Caleb Conway;  twenty great-grandchildren; siblings, Agnes Harris, Nell (Richard) Davis, Sherral (Billy Joe) Dawkins, Clarence (Robin) Arrington, Wanda (Jim)Otten, Shelia Rollin, and Charles Vernon Arrington

Carol D. Daniel

Mrs. Carol D. Daniel, age 68, passed away, Friday, August 27, 2021 in Mineola, She loved her grandchildren and her rose garden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Aubrey and Annie Resmonda; two brothers-in- law, Otis Stoker, and Sherwood Porter.

Mrs. Daniel is survived by her loving husband of forty-four years, Aubrey Ray Daniel, of Uriah, Ala.; one son, Todd Aubrey (Shelly) Daniel, of Greer, S.C; one daughter, Amber Nicole (Eric) Bradford, of Uriah; two sisters, Minnie Porter and Margaret Stoker, both of Summerdale, Ala.; five grandchildren, Hallie, Kilee, Ty, Chase, Anna, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Vernie Lee “Barnhill” Gehman

Mrs. Vernie Lee “Barnhill” Gehman, age 83, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, August. 27, 2021 in the comfort of her home and surrounded by family. She was born in Atmore to Petro Rosasco “P.R.” and Ruby Lee Barnhill. She was a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. She dedicated her life to serving the Lord alongside her husband at Gospel Light Church in Atmore.  

She was preceded in death by her siblings, James Edward Barnhill and Wilma Lee Barnhill, both of Atmore and Roy Lee Barnhill of Daphne, Ala.; son, Randy “Dale” Gehman;

Mrs. Gehman is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Martin E. Gehman; siblings, Carl Raymond Barnhill and Dillard Wayne Barnhill, both of Atmore, Ala. and Kenny Ray Barnhill of Phillipsville, Ala.; children, Martin Gerald “Jerry” (Faith) Gehman, David Wayne (Shyrell) Gehman and Martha Elaine Gehman (Todd) Gookin, all of Atmore and Joe Lynn (Rhonda) Gehman, all of Pelham, Ala ; daughter-in-law, Darlene Gehman of Akron, Penn.; sixteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren.

In her lifetime, Vernie had many titles and occupations. She worked at the local cucumber shed in Atmore. At an early age she joined hundreds of local women working at Vanity Fair Textile Industry. She then became a full time mom and assistant manager of Marty’s Cabinet Shop and Furniture Company. In 1981 she became a general partner of Alabama Native American Broadcasting Company, including radio stations WASG and WYDH. She served as a receptionist and secretary. Vernie and served as a receptionist for the PCI Health Department. More recently Vernie was involved in the operation of WGYJ-LP in Atmore, where she joined her husband as co-host to produce Mom ’n Pop’s Suppertime Gospel which is broadcast every day on WGYJ-LP.

Throughout her Tribe and the nearby communities, Vernie ministered to, prayed for, served and led people to Christ. Vernie was endlessly kind, warm and caring. She never met a stranger and was a dear friend to many. Vernie faithfully ran her race and has met her Lord and Savior in Heaven. If she were here today, she would encourage everyone to be prepared to meet her in Heaven, just as her mother Ruby did.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Gospel Light Church with Bro. Clarence Rolin and Bro. Troy Shaffer officiating. Interment will follow in a public ceremony at Serenity Gardens Cemetery, Highway 31, East of Atmore near the municipal airport.

The family will receive friends Friday, September 3, 2021 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.at Gospel Light Church, 337 N. Trammell Street, Atmore.

John Kenneth Mathis

Mr. John Kenneth Mathis, age 80, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2021 in Atmore, Ala. He lived in the Century, Fla. and Flomaton, Ala. and has resided in Atmore for the past thirty years. He enjoyed studying the “Word”. He loved spreading the “Word of God” and working in his vegetable garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Ruby Mathis; his wife forty-three years, Luverne G. Mathis; three brothers, Tom Mathis, Noah Mathis Jr.; James O Pete Mathis; one sister, Ida Mae Welch.

Mr. Mathis is survived by one daughter, Laura Perryman, of Pensacola, Fla.; dear friend, Linda Bryant, of Atmore; sister-in-law, Chiquita Mathis, of Century; three grandchildren, Terrence Wogan II, Christopher Wogan, Jonathan Wogan; six great-grandchildren; other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 6, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC with Bro. Thurl Pearson and Sis. Carolyn Bankes officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Melba Ernestine “Jackie” Brown

Mrs. Melba Ernestine “Jackie” Brown, age 94, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2021 in Century, Fla.  She was born in Bratt, Fla. to the late Ernest and Katie Davis Hall.

She was a longtime member of Atmore First Assembly of God Church where she helped organize a senior group called “Celebrate”. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hubert Lewis Brown; her grandson, Carey Brown and her siblings, Martez Rutherford, Julia Johnson, Betty Wells and Jerry Hall. 

Mrs. Brown is survived by her sons, Michael (Donna) Brown of Grand Island, Fla. and Joey (Jamie) Brown of Spanish Fort, Ala.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Bratt-Godwin Cemetery with Bro. Don Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Bratt-Godwin Cemetery.

John Robert Lee

Mr. John Robert Lee, age 61, of Century, Fla., passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021 in Pensacola, Fla. after a brief illness. He has resided most of his life in Century, Fla. He was an electrician for years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his dog Maggie. He was an avid hard worker. He enjoyed spending time with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilford and Bessie Lee; one daughter, Kathryn “Katie” Suzanne Lee; one sister, Janet Shultz.

Mr. Lee is survived by his brother-in-law, Todd Shultz, of Brewton, Ala.; cousins, Steve (Angie) Turner, of Century; four grandchildren, Isabelle Barber, Jasmine Barber, Michaela Barber, Daylon Brown; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Grover Franklin Hall                                             

Mr. Grover Franklin Hall, age 78, passed away Monday, August 30, 2021, at his home in Bratt, Fla. He was born in Bay Springs, Fla., the son of Charlie and Amanda (Smith) Hall. He attended Ernest Ward High School until he entered the United States Army. He served for twenty-six years during the Panama Conflict, Cuban Conflict, Korean War, and Vietnam. He retired from the Army as an E-8 in 1981. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints serving many years as a leader and co-founder of Jay Branch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four of his children, Jason Wayne Hall of Las Vegas, Nev., Sharon Annette Hall of Sylacauga, Ala., Carol Ann Ragoopath and Clay Allen Hall, both of Pittsburgh, Penn.; siblings, Ernest Hall of Atmore, Ala. and Burt Hall of Pensacola, Fla.

Mr. Hall is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Twila Hall of Bratt, Fla.; children, John (Myra) Hall of Lucedale, Miss., Christine Hall of Houston, TX, Roland (Jessica) Hall of Century, Fla., and Eric Hall of Molino, Fla.; siblings, Annette (Joe) Bellew of Bay Springs, Fla.,

Milton Darrell Sells

Mr. Milton Darrell Sells, age 63, passed away, Monday August 30, 2021 in Brewton, Ala.. He was a lifelong resident of McCullough, Ala. He was a proud member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and active member of the McCullough Fire Department for twenty-five plus years.

He was a loving grandfather, to the “Dirty Dozen”. He was an avid Alabama Football Fan, fisherman, and hunter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Anna Lucile Sells; two brothers, Melvin James Sells, Van Ike Sells; two nephews, Eric Leon Rolin, Ethan David Warden and other family members.

Mr. Sells is survived by his loving wife of forty-four years, Mary Sells, of McCullough; two sons, John Milton (Candace) Sells, of McCullough and David Allen (Lanie) Sells, of McKenzie, Ala.; two daughters, Mary Elaine (Daniel) Sheets, Viola Renee (Joshua) Brown, both of Poarch ; one brother, Billy (Betty) Sells, of Cantonment, Fla; four sisters, Hattie Louise Knowles, of Poarch, Vicky (Doug) Burns, and Pandora (Frank) Andrews, all of Atmore and Tera (Frankie) Coon, of McCullough; twelve grandchildren, Tyler Sells, Jayce Sells, Talan Daughtry, Jayla and Landon Brown, Seth and Trey Sheets, Trayce and Harley Sells, Peyton Rolin, Cason Sells, Shelby Sells; four great-grandchildren, John River Sells, Anaiah Sheets, plus two on the way, host of nieces, nephews, a host of hunting and fishing buddies, several lifetime friends, A.D. Mrs. Charlene Rolin Weaver, age 71, passed away Monday, August 30, 2021 in Pensacola, Fla. She was a lifelong resident of Poarch, Ala. and a member of Friendly Holiness Church. She loved her roses and liked working in her flower garden. She liked collecting “Baby Dolls”. She loved taking care of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Estelle McGhee Rolin; one brother, Clarence Leon Rolin and other family members.

Mrs. Weaver is survived by her loving husband of fifty-three years, James “Red” Weaver, of Poarch; two sons, Jeffery (Brittany) Weaver, of Poarch and Daniel (Tracy) Weaver, of Atmore, Ala.; two daughters, Frankie (Shane) Haskew, of Brewton, Ala. and Christine Weaver Warren, of Excel, Ala.; five brothers, Pete (Margaret) of Burr Oak, Mich., Ardis (Hazel) Rolin and Ralph Pearson, both of Atmore, Carl (Sara) Rolin, of Milton, Fla.; Marvin (Kim) Rolin, of Kalkaska, Wisc.; four sisters, Joyce (Daniel) Philyaw, of Huxford, Ala., Eloise Hall and Ethel Walker, both of Atmore, Stella Rutherford, of Poarch; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Douglas Ryland, age 77, of Davisville, Fla., passed away Sunday, September 5, 2021 in Davisville. He was born to the late Edward and Minnie Jackson Ryland. He served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of fifty-seven years, Beverly Godwin Ryland; granddaughter, Anni Jordan; son-in-law, Joe Murray; siblings, Mary Lee Ryland Brooks, J.E. Ryland and Bobby Joe Ryland.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Godwin Cemetery in Bratt, Fla. Interment will follow in Godwin Cemetery.

Thomas Edward Longmire

Mr. Thomas Edward Longmire, age 58, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, August 27, 2021. He was born in Atmore to Mary Longmire and Issaac Dailey, Sr. He served in the military for a short period of time. His greatest talent involved cooking. He was protective of those whom he cared about ad loved. He was not a religious man nor did he belong to a church, yet during his las months, hi conversation revealed a desire to pray.

A “Farewell Barbecue” was held Saturday, September 3, 2021 at 3 p.m.

Mr. Ray Athey Beasley, Jr., age 68, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2021 in Fairhope, Ala.  He was born in Atmore, Ala. to the late Ray A. and Priscilla Howell Beasley, Sr. He retired from Ace Distribution Center. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Patricia Beasley and his sister, Gloria Gilman. 

Mr. Beasley is survived by his wife, Penny Sanders Beasley of Loxley, Ala.; his son, Ray A. (Lisa) Beasley, III of Andalusia, Ala.; his daughter, Tammy Hargrove (Ron Levins) of Loxley,; his step-daughter, Holly (Brad) Brooks of Bratt, Fla.; his sister, Raeanne (Jimmy) Long of Robertsdale, Ala.; his brother-in-law, Robert Gilman of Bratt, Fla.; his grandchildren, Avianna, Aubrey, Colby, Ryan, Cullen, Nahla and Talia.
