Steven Allen Lashley

Mr. Steven Allen Lashley, age 63, passed away Monday, August 23, 2021 in Century, Fla. He was born in Buras, La. and has resided most of his life in Century. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with family, and coaching Little League Ball. He loved to tell stories and he never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lonnie Lashley.
Mr. Lashley is survived by his mother, Ruby Lee Lashley, of Century; one son, Stevie Lashley (Mindy) of Century; one daughter, Misti LaSala (Paul) of Canoe, Ala.; one brother, Edwin Lashley, of Century; one sister, Gaynell Bethea, of Century; three grandchildren, Ansley Tillery (Jonah), Andrea LaSala, Aiden LaSala, other relatives and special friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC with Rev. Chip Barbas officiating. Burial will follow at Beulah Chapel Cemetery.

James Howard Shell 

Shell

Mr. James Howard Shell, age 88, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021, in Spanish Fort, Ala. where he had been a resident of Westminster Village for the past four years. He was born in Excel, Ala. to the late Edna Johnson Shell and Cary Ezekiel Shell. He grew up in Walnut Hill, Fla. graduating from Ernest Ward High School before attending Florida State University.  Due to the Korean War, he left FSU and joined the US Navy where he served aboard the USS Ault for four years. After his service years, he joined Monsanto working in research and development for 30 years before retiring.
Howard served on the Atmore City Council for two years and subsequently was elected mayor, serving for 22 years before retiring in 2012. He was a member of the Atmore First United Methodist Church, the Lions Club, American Legion Post #90 and was a 32nd degree Freemason.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Nannette Cobb Shell.
Mr. Shell is survived by his children, Nancy Shell Fayard (Gary) of Atlanta, Ga. and
James Burton Shell (Kim) of Pawleys Island, S.C.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, John, Katie and Charlotte Fayard of Nashville, Tenn., Chris, Brittany, Liam and Isabella Fayard of Atlanta,  Mollie, Mark and Charlie Schimmel of New Canaan, Conn., Laura Shell of Burlington, N.C. and Sam Shell of Denver, Colo.; brother, Cary E. Shell, Jr. (Frances) and sister, Linda Shell Tolliver (Wilbur Gatham), both of Pensacola, Fla.
Former Mayor Shell requested that his memorial service be postponed to a later date. He was concerned for the health of family, friends and citizens of Atmore due to the high rates of viral infection. Public notice will be given for date of service once determined.

Mrs. Rebecca Higdon, age 72, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021 in Pensacola, Fla. She was born in Jay, Fla, but has resided most of her life in Flomaton, Ala. She was a faithful member of Lighthouse Baptist Church. She enjoyed going to church, singing and going to the mountains. She loved her family dearly and always valued the time she spent with them, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert (Effie) Little of Jay, Fla.
Mrs. Higdon is survived by her loving husband of forty-seven and a half years, Kenny Higdon, of Flomaton; two sons, Kenny Higdon Jr; of Flomaton and Cleve (Beverly) Johnson of Spring Hill, Tenn.; one daughter, Marilyn (Chuck) Day of Flomaton; two grandsons, Isaiah (Stevie) Day and Joshua (Autumn) Day, all of Flomaton; six granddaughters, Jamie (Parker) Bell, of Flomaton, Shelby Sasser, of Andalusia, Ala., Kayla Higdon (Josh), of Evergreen, Ala., Brandy Higdon, of Jay, Kaylyn (Cody) Martin and Lauren Johnson, all of Springhill, Tenn.; fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister, JoAnn (Johnny) Johnson, of Columbia, Tenn.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC with Bro. Chuck Day and Bro. Isaiah Day officiating. Burial will follow at Little Escambia Cemetery.

Christopher Allen Mummert, II 

Mummert

Mr. Christopher Allen Mummert, II, age 39, passed away Friday, July 23, 2021 in Pensacola, Fla.  He was born in Baltimore, Md. to Christopher Allen and Deborah Stein Mummert.  He served in The United States Marine Corps and The United States Army.  During his service to his country he was deployed to Iraq. 

Mr. Mummert is survived by his wife, Crystal Lanham Mummert; his children, Seth Mummert, Alexander Mummert, Ripley Mummert and Aurora Mummert; his brother, Adam Mummert; his sister, Jessica Byrd and his best friend and brother, Ander Johnson. 

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel.

Debra Jane Patti

Debra Jane Patti, age 64, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021 in Brewton, Ala. She was born in South Ruislip, England to the late Homer and Elsie Marie Albritton Kitchens. 

She was preceded in death by her parents. 

She is survived by her children, Gary Joslin (Jennifer Mothershed), Ashley McBride (John Money), all of Brewton and Joe Patti (Jackie Johnson) of Mobile, Ala.; her sisters, Gail Stamps of Atmore, Ala., Teresa Albritton of Grand Bay, Ala. and Karen (Jimmy) Millikan of Huxford, Ala. and her dear friend, John Thompson of Brewton, Ala.; six grandchildren, Kayla, Kyle, Byron, Colyn, Shaley and A.J. “Bubba” along with two great-grandchildren, Bryla and Brielle. 

A Celebrate of Life service will be held Friday, August 27, 2021 at 5 p.m. followed by a visitation until 8 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Thurl Pearson officiating.

Betty Lou (Dunn) Gregg

Mrs. Betty Lou (Dunn) Gregg, age 71, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021 in Atmore, Ala. She was born in McCullough, Ala. to the late Odis C. and Ruby E. “Liz” Tolin Dunn. She loved gardening, rescuing stray cats, shopping, fine dining, cooking and was an avid Auburn Fan. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Maurice Gregg; her father, Odis C. Dunn; her mother, Ruby E. “Liz” Dunn Davis Boone; her step-father, Hilton P. Davis and her brother, Roy Wayne Dunn. 

Mrs. Gregg is survived by her siblings, Evelyn Joan (Bruce) Lang of Brandon, Miss., Linda Joyce Morgan of Hilham, Tenn., Thomas Henry (Donna) Davis of Mineola, Ala., Autrey Edward Davis of Davisville, Fla, Lois Jean (George) Mahony, Peggy Sue Dunn, Billy Ray (Ruthie) Dunn and David Glenn Dunn, all of Atmore; numerous nieces and nephews. She had special love for her feline companion, Aubie; her special friend, James Michael Coker and her lifelong friend, Alan Etheridge. 

A private family viewing will be held at a later date. The family asked that facial mask be worn due to the current healthcare crisis. 

An Inurnment will follow in Newport, Tenn. at a later date.

Samuel Dana Schjott   

Schjott

Mr. Samuel Dana Schjott, age 36, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021. He was a proud alumnus of Huntingdon College and the University of Florida where he earned his Master of International Business. He was a proud servant of his community and a loyal and dedicated employee of Alabama Power. Unequaled in his roaring laugh, unrivaled in his optimism, and second to none in befriending anyone he met, he was the inimitable, legendary, Sam Schjott.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Captain Martin Dale Schjott and wife, Naomi Marie “Gommie” Cain Schjott; maternal grandmother, Mary Alma Bellina; brother Joseph John Schjott.

Mr. Schjott is survived by his parents, Dana Paige Schjott and Stephanie Kihm Schjott; sisters, Kathleen Lynne Schjott and husband, Patrick Ryan Johnston and Sabrina Jean Schjott; his sister-in-law, Kathryn Walls Schjott; numerous nieces and nephews; surrogate parents, David Earl Rice and wife Julie Smith Rice; Gregory Raymond Weaver and wife Linda Lunsford Weaver; and a lifetime’s worth of cherished friends.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 27, 2021 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Luke 4:18 Fellowship Church in Mobile, Ala. A private family service and burial will follow and A Celebration of Life at the Bayou Community Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in the name of Mr. Schjott to either Huntingdon College, the University of Florida – International Business School, or the Kyser Miree Memorial Fishing Tournament.

Byron “Potsie” Arrington Jr.

Mr. Byron “Potsie” Arrington Jr; age 70, passed away Friday, August 13, 2021 in Milton, Fla. He born in Uriah, Ala., but has resided the last nine years in Milton. He loved his family and cracking jokes. He was an avid Alabama football fan. He loved all sports, Nascar Racing, Professional Wrestling, and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Byron Arrington Sr. and Luvern Gulsby Arrington; one brother, B W Arrington Jr.
Mr. Arrington is survived by his loving wife of eight years, Glenda Arrington, of Milton; one son, Michael Arrington (Christie) of Castleberry, Ala.; two step-sons, Gary Burkett and Charles Kennington, both of Milton; one brother, J W Dennis, of Caro, Mich.; two sisters, Betty Farley, of Stapleton, Ala. and Joann Lee, of Chatom, Ala.; five grandchildren, Megan, Tina, Eric, Gracie, Breanna; six great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Joshua Shane Clark  

Mr. Joshua Shane Clark, age 47, a native of Atmore, Ala. and former resident of Pensacola, Fla., who later .resided in Theodore, Ala passed away, Tuesday, August 24, 2021 in Theodore.  He was born in Pensacola. He served in The United States Marine Corps.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Oliver B. Edgar and his grandparents, Harold and Janice Clark.

Mr. Clark  is survived by his father, Harold Joseph Clark of Mobile, Ala.; his mother and step-father, Kent (Faren) Brown of Viola, De.; his sister, Lindsey (Eric) Parnell of Saraland, Ala; his nieces, Eleena, Brinkley and Abby along with his nephews, Rylind, Avery and Brant.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Noon at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore, Ala. with Rev. Steve Walley officiating.  Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mary R. Smith

Mrs. Mary R. Smith, 74 of Atmore, Ala. passed away Friday, August 27, 2021 in Atmore. She was born in East Brewton, Ala. to the late Rufus and Mary Inez Weaver O’Farrell. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was a beautician most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lou Jean Petty.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 38 years, Alvin Lamar “Pete” Smith of Atmore; and a daughter, Marcy (Nathan) Riley of Atmore; three step-children, David (Kathy) Smith, Heith (Kimber) Smith, all of Atmore, Eugenia (Ray) Boutwell of Flomaton, Ala. and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. Mike Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Clifton David Pack Sr. 

Mr. Clifton David Pack Sr., age 87, of Walnut Hill, Fla., passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021 at his home. He was born in Kegley, W. V. and has resided in Walnut Hill since 1991. He was a member of the Dry Springs Community Church. He retired from the United States Navy, after serving twenty years. Loved to play his guitar and sing. He severed as treasurer in the church for several years. He was an avid fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Roosevelt (Mae Cox) Pack and one sister, Catherine Pack.
Mr. Pack  is survived by his wife, Eylene Howell Pack of Walnut Hill; three sons, Ray Pack, of Milton, Fla.; Clifton Pack Jr. (Cathy) of Pensacola, Fla.; Richard Allen Pack (Ana) of Lillian, Ala.; one stepson, Jimmy Johnson, of  Pototoc, Miss.; two daughters, Ginger Barbacovey (Charlie) of Pensacola, Fla; Dawn Lysek, of Milton, Fla.; three step daughters, Tracy Johnson, of Tallahassee, Fla.; Iris Marie Quinn, of Atmore, Ala.; Margaret Waters, (Ron) of Cullman, Ala.; one sister, Wanda Pack, of Roanoke, Va.; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, other relatives and friends.

Deborah Carolyn Jackson

Mrs. Deborah Carolyn Jackson, age 57, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021 in Atmore. She was a lifelong resident of Atmore and a member of the United Methodist Church of Atmore. She worked with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians for several years. She was an avid Alabama Football Fan, loved to travel with her husband, but enjoyed going to the casinos with her mom.
She was preceded in death by her father, Eubie W. Davis and one brother, Joey Davis.
Mrs. Jackson  is survived by her mother, Olivia Bryant (Runt) of Atmore; her loving husband of twenty plus years, Ronnie Ray Jackson of Atmore; two sons, Randon Watson (Sarah) of McDavid, Fla.; William Cook, of Walnut Hill, FL; one step- son, Scott Jackson (Tammy) of Wetumpka, AL: two daughters, Sharley Cook (Trent) of Atmore; Nioma Till (Shawn) of Excel., Ala; twelve grandchildren, Raycer Waston, Landon Watson, William Watson, Crimson Cook, Arabella Cook, Elianna Cook, Koby Styron, Braxton Styron, Brantlee Till, Gabe Till, Haylee Jackson, Dalton Jackson, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dewey Ronald Ward     

Mr. Dewey Ronald Ward, age, 82, passed away Monday, July 19, 2021 at his home in Alpine, Tenn. He was born in McDavid, Fla. to Clara Leticia Brunson and Thomas Jackson Ward. He was a 1956  graduate of Century High School and joined the United States Navy in 1956.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Grady, Marie, Troy and Billy Ward and Diane, Joe and Gene Rigby.

Mr. Ward is survived by his children, Keith (Valerie) Ward, Donna (Bob) Warner, and Nicholas (Becki) Ward; six grandchildren, Brandon (Tonya) Warner, Nikole Ward, Cameron (Caitlin) Warner, Nicholas Jr. (Breanna) Ward, Shannon (Ryan) Crowley, and Laina Ward as well as four great-grandchildren Ethan Warner, Kaylee Smallwood, Chloe Warner and Harleen Ward.

A celebration of his life, with military honors, will be held at Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church, 170 Bogia Road, McDavid, Fla., Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Flags of Honor which is an educational scholarship for military families.

Betty F. Amerson Brown

Mrs. Betty F. Amerson Brown, age 85, of Cantonment, Fla., passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021 in Atmore, Ala. She was born in Bratt, Fla. to the late Horace Edison and Fannie Annette Wiggins Amerson. She was of the Baptist Faith. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Brown; her step-son, Roland Brown; her brothers, Elyan Amerson and Jimmy Amerson. 

Mrs. Brown is survived by her daughter, Wanda Hall of Atmore; her son, Randy (Pat) Hall of Salt Lake, Utah; her step-sons, Russell (Karla) Brown of Cantonment, Randy Brown of Atmore, and Rodney (Faye) Brown of McDavid, Fla.; her brother, Curtis (Betty) Amerson of Enon, Fla.; her sister, Ann Amerson Weems of Atmore.; nine grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. 

Graveside service will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 11 a. m. at Christian Home Cemetery with Rev. Ken Johnson and Bro. Ricky Tedder officiating. Interment will follow at Christian Home Cemetery. 

Active pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Judith Vickery Branum

Mrs. Judith Vickery Branum, age 75, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021. She was born in New Castle, Ind. Other than college days at Auburn University, she had lived in Atmore. She spent her life teaching in Escambia Academy, Flomaton High School, Escambia County High School and T.R. Miller High School. She loved her church home, First Baptist Church of Atmore, where for years, she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and children’s church. Her students praise her for her great delight in teaching and touching their lives. Perhaps her most important role, however, was becoming a YaYa to her dear granddaughter, Olivia, and she brought to that role the utmost of enthusiasm and love.  

She is preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie Farrar “Red” Vickery and Bonnie Kirkpatrick Vickery; and her sister, Becky Shivers. 

Mrs. Branum is survived by her husband, Billy Wayne; her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Nic Minopoli; her granddaughter, Olivia Minopoli; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Penny and Galen Walker and Peggy and John James; a special cousin, John Arthur Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews she loved as her own.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at 3:30 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore, Ala. 

For safety purposes, the family asks that you wear a mask and socially distance. 

The family intends to have a celebration of life service when safe.

Mr. Willie Robert Dixon, 88, of Atmore answered the Master’s Call Friday, August 27, 2021 in Atmore. Funeral service will be announced later by Turner Funeral Chapel.

Nathaniel Richardson

Mr. Nathaniel Richardson, 52, of Monroeville, Ala. entered his heavenly mansion on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Monroe County Hospital in Monroeville.

A native of Monroe County, Mr. Richardson was a 1987 graduate of Monroe County High School. He also attended Reid State Technical College in Evergreen. He worked as a truck driver with Baldwin Transportation. He loved his family and truck driving and enjoyed dressing up and dancing. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph, Sr. and Elouise Richardson, and a sister, Gwendolyn Faith McMillan. He is survived by his wife, Sharion Sanders-Richardson of Monroeville; two sons, James Thomas of Repton and Nicholas Richardson of Brewton, Ala.; two sisters, Doris Richardson of Monroeville, Ala. and Janice Powell of Pensacola, Fla.; eight brothers, Ronnie Richardson of Monroeville, Ralph Richardson, Jr. of Nashville, Tenn., Jerry Richardson of Monroeville, Woodrow Richardson of Selma, Kenneth Richardson of Oakland, Calif., Ricky Richardson of Odessa, Texas, Bobby Richardson of San Diego, Calif., and Larry Richardson of Atlanta, Ga.; and 3 grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Saturday, September 4, 2021, 11 a.m., at Destiny Worship Center (outdoors), 50 West Sunset Drive, Atmore, with Bishop Bernard Bishop, Pastor, officiating. Inhumation will be Sunday in Bethany Church Cemetery in Burnt Corn Community.

Jasmine Nicole Marshall

Ms. Jasmine Nicole Marshall, age 27, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, August 20, 2021. She was born in Pensacola, Fla. She attended Northview High School and later continued on to State Collegiate High School where she graduated. She attended Church of God in Christ in Walnut Hill, Fla., and was a part of the choir and praise dance team. She was an artist, loved nature and enjoyed drawing and writing poems.

Ms. Marshall is survived by her mother, Gloria Marshall-Mitchell, and father, Ernest Mitchell; brother, Adrian Holbert; sister, Taiqueisha Mitchell; brother, Deonte Mitchell; long-time companion, Neal Triplett; grandmothers, Dorothy L.
