An Atmore man reportedly remained in an area trauma center this week after being stabbed nearly two weeks ago by his brother, who remained behind bars as midweek approached.
Police Chief Chuck Brooks reported that Markey Deyeal Finklea, 42, was arrested Saturday, August 7, after police were sent around 1:30 p.m. to a Martin Luther King Drive residence in reference to a domestic dispute that turned bloody.
“Officers were dispatched to (the residence) after we got a report of a domestic altercation between two brothers,” Brooks said. “They made contact with a 40-year-old male (whose identity was not released) who had been stabbed and was bleeding from the neck.”
Atmore Fire Department personnel were called to the scene. Reports show firemen held pressure to the injured man’s wound until an ambulance arrived from Monroeville, nearly 30 minutes after the stabbing.
The victim was taken to Atmore Community Hospital, from which he was later flown by medical evacuation helicopter to the unnamed trauma center for further treatment. His condition was not immediately available.
According to the Escambia County Detention Center website, Finklea was still in the facility late Monday (August 16). He is being held under $50,000 bond on one count of first-degree domestic violence (assault).
First-degree domestic violence-assault is a Class A felony, punishable upon conviction by a prison term of 10 to 99 years.
