Special to Atmore News

Ella Louise Edwards, born May 2, 1918, celebrated her 104th birthday Sunday.
Her celebration included her six children, most of her 40 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a host of special friends.
Ms. Edwards is one of four siblings born to Herbert and Ella Edwards. Although she is the sole surviving member of her immediate family, she has continued her family’s ancestry by building her own legacy with her late husband, Marzell Jefferson.
Ms. Edwards was born in Purdue Hill, Ala., but raised her family in Atmore. In the late 60s, she moved to Albion, New York to support her family financially as those opportunities were few and far between in Atmore. She remained in Albion until her 99th birthday at which point she decided to return home.
Though her days are a lot quieter than they were, Ms. Edwards still follows a daily routine of preparing her coffee and breakfast in the mornings followed by a late afternoon of Family Feud.
When asked about her secret to a long life, she says she just keeps to a routine and always keeps moving.
