Escambia County High School girls and boys track teams are state bound after both teams qualified in various categories during the AHSAA Class 4A, Section 1 meet last Friday, April 23, and Saturday, April 24, at T.R. Miller High School in Brewton. The five top teams or individuals in each event advance to the state track and field meet each year.
On the ECHS boys’ team, Darron Nichols qualified for the state in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles; Nehmiah Tucker in the long jump; and the boys’ 4×100-meter relay team qualified.
On the ECHS girls’ team, Tyquaja Brown and D’Ayla Simmons qualified in the 100-meter dash; Tykelui Frye qualified in the 400-meter dash; Malikwa Harvey qualified in the 100-meter hurdles; and the girls’ 4×100-meter relay team qualified for a chance at a state title.
The state track and field meet will take place in Gulf Shores April 29 through May 1.
