After splitting two games against Sparta Academy during double-header action last Tuesday, April 13, the Escambia Academy Cougars are playoff bound after securing a third-seed spot in the 2021 AISA, Class 2A State Playoffs.
During the first game of last week’s double-header, the Cougars defeated the Warriors 13-0. Parker Robinson opened the first game for EA on mound, pitching a no hitter, walking 5 and striking out 4 batters in 5 innings. Landon Sims led the team at bat going 4-for-4, and he gained 2 stolen bases. Randall Bonds added 3 RBIs and gained 3 hits in 4 appearances at the plate.
The Cougars dropped the second game of the series, 11-8, with Jacob Lee earning the loss on the mound. Lee allowed 7 runs and walked 7 batters. Kayne Hooks led EA at bat, going 3-for-4.
“I am proud of the team,” EA head coach Mike Sims said. “Robinson is pitching well and Sims is batting over 400. Hooks has been coming through for us at DH [designated hitter] and we are looking forward to Friday.”
This Friday, April 23, the Cougars will play Southern Choctaw, the AISA, Class 2A number 2 seed holder during the first round of the 2021 AISA, Class 2A State Playoffs. According to Sims, the series will be the best of three games with an additional game played on Saturday, April 24, if needed.
