Mrs. Margaret Ann Creamer Ard

Mrs. Margaret Ann Creamer Ard, age 71, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021 in Pensacola, Fla.
She was a native of Century, Fla. and had resided in Pensacola for the past few years. She retired from the Civil Service Department as a secretary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Charles Creamer and Eulene.
Mrs. Ard is survived by her former husband, James Rolen Ard of Daleville, Ala.; one son, James Roger Ard, of Ozark, Ala.; former daughter-in-law, Annie Boster of Mobile, Ala.; one sister, Linda Turner of Mobile, Ala.; four grandchildren, Madison Ard, and Jacob Boster, both of Mobile, Ala., Layla and Jaxon Ard of Ozark and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Harper officiating. Burial followed at Serenity Gardens Cemetery.
The family received friends Thursday, April 15, 2021 from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Mr. Kristopher Bradley Respress, age 30, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021 in Atmore, Ala. He was born in Atmore to Patricia Respress and the late Anthony Wayne Respress. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Wayne Respress; his grandparents, Willie Claud “Bill” Rutherford, Amon and Evon Respress; and his uncles, Larry Kyser, Donald Respress and Tom Respress, Frank McGuire and Jerry Mason. 

Mr. Respress is survived by his wife, Britton Baisden Respress of Atmore; his daughter, Britton Grace Respress of Perdido, Ala.; his mother, Patricia Respress of Atmore; his grandmother, Essie Mae “Pat” Rutherford of Atmore; his brothers, Colton (Lindsey) Respress of Goodway, Ala., and Michael Sean Respress of Foley, Ala.; five nephews, Seth, Sage, Michael, A.J. and Carlos; and many aunts, uncles, family and friends. 

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 18, 2021 at  2 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with  Bro. Derek Gobert officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date.

Mr. Clayton Scott, age 89, a native of Bay Minette, Ala. and a resident of Walnut Hill, Fla., passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2021. He was employed for 30 years at Armstrong World Industries before retiring in 1992. He was well respected and made many friends over the years throughout the community. Above all, he had a loving, kind and giving heart. He especially loved the outdoors and about tending his garden. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Burley Parker Scott, and ten siblings. 

Mr. Scott is survived by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Verna Lee Mason Scott; his daughters, Cynthia Koklas (Stephen), Penny Morton and Marsha Jordan; his sons, Christopher Scott (Cathy) and Chadrick Scott (Blair); his grandchildren, Kristina Shernoff, Kelly Koklas, Ryan Morton, Leigh McCormack, Joshua Scott, Danielle Dauson, Brittany Colley, Chelsea Ferguson, Jenna Johnson, Madison Norton, McKenzie Nassar, Madison Nassar, Mary Paige Nassar and Maggie Scott; and twenty great-.grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held Friday, April 16, 2021, at 3 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ted Bridges officiating. Interment followed at Walnut Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Walnut Hill.

Augusta Parker Hopkins

Mrs. Augusta Parker Hopkins, age 88, of Orange Beach, Ala., formerly of Atmore, Ala., passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021. She was born to Lawrence and Eula Parker in Davisville, Fla. She had resided in Atmore, Ala., Mobile, Ala. and was a long time resident of Orange Beach. She was a successful businesswoman, owning several ventures with her husband Troy. Together they won several awards and trips abroad as top sellers in their industry. She also had a true talent for raising a large family and making it look easy. There was always room for another chair around the table at the “big house” on Horner Street and many of her children’s friends considered it a second home. She was a wonderful cook and loved teaching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren how to make her many recipes, buttermilk biscuits being at the top of the list. She never met a stranger and had a unique knack for finding something in common with every one she met. She also loved sports, played basketball in school and enjoyed traveling with Troy to cheer on the Alabama Crimson Tide both home and away. Sharp as a tack mentally she worked crossword puzzles with an ink pen in minutes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Troy E. Hopkins Sr.; son, Troy E. Hopkins Jr.; sister, Ruby Lee Varner; brothers, Eddie and Arnold Parker; grandchildren, John, Miranda and Melissa Hawkins and son-in-law Charles Walker.

Mrs. Hopkins is survived by three daughters, Dianne Walker, Charlotte Culbreth and her husband Steve of Orange Beach, and Cindy Hopkins of Foley, Ala.; one son, Greg Hopkins Sr.; one brother, Curtis A. Parker and his wife Annie; grandchildren, Troy Hopkins III, (Brandie), Minnie Bilbo (Cline), Gus Smith (Andy), Beau Hawkins (Chelsie), Emma Hawkins, Greg Hopkins Jr., Katie Hopkins and Elizabeth Hancock (Scott); thirty-eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

Funeral services will be held from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, 1322 South Main St. in Atmore Saturday April 24, 2021. The family will gather at 12:30 p.m. with visitation at 1 p.m. and the service following at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore.

Pallbearers will be Troy Hopkins III, Gus Smith, Cline Bilbo, Steve Culbreth, Beau Hawkins, Peyton Smith, Reece Hopkins and Grant Bilbo.

Dempsey Leon Hadley

Mr. Dempsey Leon Hadley, age 37, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021 in Wallace, Ala., off Rawls Road. He was born in Mobile, Ala., but was a lifelong resident of Flomaton, Ala. He loved hunting and fishing, loved his mother and daughter, his three step-daughters and three step-grandchildren. He was employed with Bud’s Refrigeration as a service installer / technician.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thadis and Della Johnson, Tuney and Lou Ethel

Hadley; and uncle, Pebo Johnson; and several other family members.

Mr. Hadley is survived by his parents Tuney Leon Hadley and Tammy J. Hadley of Flomaton;

significant other, Ame Roley of Flomaton; daughter, Brylen Michelle Hadley of Flomaton; three

step-daughters, Brianna Roley of Pensacola, Fla., Brittanie Roley and Olan Barlow of Nokomis,

Fla., Balie Merchant of Flomaton; one brother, Joseph Hadley and Lisa Spencer of Catlettsburg,

Ky.; three step-grandchildren, Landen, Jayce and Josie.

Mrs. Betty Louise McGhee age 82, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021 in Altoona, Ala. She was a native of Gadsden, Ala. and had resided in Atmore since 1995. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Scott and Mattie Lou Phillips; husband, Cecil McGhee; twin sons, Vincent and Vance McGhee; and great-grandson, Jaylen Hammett; two brothers Herman Scott, Billy Scott; one sister, Ellen Spencer; and several other family members.

Mrs. McGhee is survived by two sons, Gwinn McGhee (Teresa) of Nokomis, Ala.; Mark McGhee (Renea) of Poarch, Ala.; two daughters, Sherry Hammett (Randell) of Altoona, Ala., Sylvia Holloman (Chris) of Boaz, Ala.; four brothers, Mickey McGhee of Slidell, La., Paul McGhee of Lincoln, Neb., Bobby Wayne McGhee of Houston, Tx., “Pete” Charles William McGhee of Mobile, Ala.; three sisters, Lizette Wiggins of Atmore, Barbara Rayborn of Poarch and Gloria Jean Holmes of Durham, N.C.; nine grandchildren, Leslie Sharbel, Justin McGhee, Britney McGhee, Kara Hammett, Kalan Hammett, Colton Penrod, Jade Wilemon, Autumn Hammett and Addison Penrod, twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

James Wesley “Wes” Hayles

Mr. James Wesley “Wes” Hayles, age 49, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021 at his home in Uriah, Ala. He was a native of Mobile, Ala., a resident of Uriah for most of his life, and a member of Mineola Baptist Church. He was a graduate of J.U. Blacksher High School, had a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Troy University, and was an Addiction Counselor with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.

He was preceded in death by his father, James H. Hayles; his maternal grandparents, Oscar “Pete” Ward and Ruth Blackburn Ward; his paternal grandparents, Eubie Hayles and Doris Jeter Hayles; and a niece, Kaitlyn Marie Hiebert.

Mr. Hayles is survived by his wife, Caroline Beasley Hayles of Uriah; his mother, Wanda Ward Hayles of Uriah; his son, Sawyer Hayles of Uriah; his daughter, Bailey Hayles of Uriah; a sister, Sandra Hiebert and husband Jason of Atmore, Ala.; two nephews, Justin Hiebert and John Hiebert.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Mineola Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Kirchharr officiating. Burial followed at Mineola Cemetery.

Ms. Cecelia Gregson Nobles, age 51, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021 in Atmore, Ala.  She was a native of Atmore. She was a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edward Gregson and Daisy Bell Rolin; brother, Eddie Wayne Gregson, and sister, Sherry Ann Phillips.

Ms. Nobles is survived by her one son, Fayv Blain (Hunter) Nobles (Kassadi) of Atmore; one daughter, Daya Nicole (Pookie) Nobles of Atmore; two brothers, Charles Gregson (Cheryl) of Atmore, Timothy Gregson of Semmes, Ala; two sisters, Robin Barlow (Larry) and Melanie Gregson, all of Atmore; two beautiful grandchildren, Harmonie Nobles and Bentley Ard. 

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Friendly Holiness Church.

Burial followed at New Home Cemetery.

Lillian Uriah Harris Curry

Mrs. Lillian Uriah Harris Curry, passed away Friday, April 16, 2021 in Atmore, Ala. She was a lifelong resident of Baldwin County and was well known around in the community for her Lawn Care Service. As a child, she was named “Bounce” by her father John, for her contagious energy. She loved fishing, would give you her last bite of food, and was always a humble praying woman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eliza Harris; three husbands, William “Bill” Weekley, Ike Hadley and Eugene Curry; three brothers, Johnny Harris, Leo Harris, and Willie Harris; four sisters, Janie Harris Toler, Bertha Harris Brown, Ida Harris Hall and Cleo Harris.

Mrs. Curry is survived by her three sons, Johnny Weekley, William “Freddie” Weekley, Harold (Debbie) Weekley, all of Perdido, Ala.; two grandchildren, Tabitha Weekley Fulgham and William Lee Weekley; nine great-grandchildren, Jacob, Vanessa, Ruthie, Emily, Alyssa, John Asher, Isaiah, Faith and Stone.

Ira Brunette “Peggy” Green

Green

Mrs. Ira Brunette “Peggy” Green, age 89, was born in Pollard, Ala. and resided in Jay, Fla. and finally in Bunkie, La. where she passed away Sunday, March 29, 2021. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #208 Jay, Fla., and a born-again believer in Jesus Christ and loved attending church. She was the social hub of the community and knew most everyone. She loved her family. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira G. Barrow and Lena Calloway Barrow of Century, Fla.; siblings, Ivey Barrow, Roy Barrow, Paul Faulk, Margie Brown, and Dorothy Cooper; her husband, Doug Green; a daughter, Amanda Carroll Reese; and a grandson, Shannon Steudlein. 

Mrs. Green is survived by two daughters, Wanda F. Steudlein, of Pensacola, Fla., and Dori (David) Ard of Bunkie, La.; seven grandchildren, Robin (Robert) White of Milton, Fla., Sandy Hammond of Pensacola, Robert E. Reese, Jr. of Jay, Fla., Shawn Steudlein of Pensacola, Wendy Lynn Valdez of Salt Lake City, Utah, Hailey (Ky) Tran of Dallas, Texas, and Madison (Stanton) Faulk of Lafayette; eleven great-grandchildren, Derek (Brooke) Smith, Ryan Reese, Amanda O’Dell, Matthew Hammond, Brandon Hammond, Jacob Hammond, Hunter Sellers, Waylon Reese, Trinity Sellers, Summer Palmer, Victor Tran;  and one great-great-grandchild, Aubrey Smith; numerous nieces and nephews and innumerable friends.

A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held for family and friends Monday, April 26, 2021 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Pine Level Baptist Church in Jay. Inurnment will follow at Pine Level Baptist Church Cemetery in Jay, Fla.

Ms. Betty Lanell Davis, age 70, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2021 in Loxley, Ala. She was born in Escambia County, Ala. to the late Mose Lambert and Susie Brantley Davis. After retiring from Alabama Power Customer Service, she was employed with Thomas Hospital for many years. 

She was preceded in death by her parents. 

Ms. Davis is survived by her family and many friends. 

A private graveside memorial service will be held at a later date with inurnment to follow at Serenity Gardens Cemetery in Atmore.

Mrs. Jocelyn A. Cubbage, age 49, passed away Friday, April 16, 2021 in Mobile, Ala. She was a lifelong resident of Bay Minette, Ala., and has resided in Stockton, Ala. She loved her family and her grandbabies. She loved fishing and the outdoors.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth I. Adams Jr.
Mrs. Cabbage is survived by her parents, Kenneth “KI” Adams and Evie Adams of Bay Minette; husband, Donny “Chub” Cubbage of Stockton; one son, Miles Cubbage of Stockton; one daughter, Madison Cubbage of Atmore, Ala.; one step- daughter, Marissa Edwards of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; one brother, Dallas Adams of Moss Point, Miss.; three grandchildren, Kamoni Elijah Cubbage, Kehlin M. Mrs. Patrice Monique Martin Boggan, age 38, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, April 8, 2021. She was a graduate of Escambia County High School. She was an advocate of card games, and her most hidden talent was as an artist.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Mazie “Lean” Thomas-White, age 76, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021. She was born to the late Bertha Carter. She loved the outdoors and sitting on the front porch with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother; her companion, W.T. Mitchell; son, Keith White; sister, Roberta “Bea” Stotts; and cousin, Geraldine “Bae” Smith.

Ms. Thomas-White is survived by two daughters, Latosha (Eddie) Tolbert and Mi. Vicki Tucker; five sons, Andre, Demetrius, Maurice, Carlos (Katrina) and Reginald; daughter-in-law, Josette; grandchildren, De’Tarius “Skooter” and Qwa’Terius “Tez”, Janya “Nya”, Destinee, Yolanda, Montre, Joketrick, Tomarkus, Brandon, Alexis, Olivia, Maurice “MJ”, Devonte, Chelsea, Jacobi, Antjuan, Porsche (Marvin), Areunna and Kiera; four great-grandchildren; host of nephews, nieces and cousins; best friends, Eva Flavors, Rosie Jones and Doris Barron.

Leroy “Horseman” Willis, Jr.

Mr. Leroy “Horseman” Willis, Jr., age 67, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021. He was born in Atmore to Leroy Willis, Sr., and Ida Pearl Willis-Mitchell. He moved to Chicago, Ill. and worked in constructional and mechanical projects. Relocating to Atmore, he enjoyed fishing and singing. Most of his friends called him “Horseman.”

He was preceded in death by his father and mother; uncles, Preacher, James, Zeke, Albert and Robert; step-father, James Mitchell, Sr., niece, Tina; brothers, Don, Larry and Willie Ray; sister, Evelyn; nephews, Letroy and J.R.

Mr. Willis is survived by his sisters, Annie Pearl (Johnny) and Letha; brother, Malcolm Charles (Mary); step-sisters, Barbara, Mary Alice, Linda Faye, Deborah and Gloria; step-brothers, Robert, James Carl, Jr. and Lloyd; aunts, cousins and friends, Henry Lee, Willie, Robert Henderson and Robert Poole; special friends, Irma Ruffin and Barbara Frye.
