Escambia Academy’s varsity basketball team was unable to close out 2020 with another win, falling to Oak Park Church School 41-36 last Tuesday, December 29.
According to Cougars head coach Willie White, EA entered the game with only six players.
“We knew we would have problems with fatigue due to the limited number of players that we had,” White said. “We successfully applied pressure, but the fatigue set in and took its toll.”
White added that the small Cougars squad missed several layups and missed great opportunities at the free throw line, which cost EA the victory.
The Cougars were able to stay within reach of Oak Park for most of the game, but the fatigue and missed opportunities took their toll during the final period.
Landon Sims scored 14 points and had five rebounds, two steals. And an assist T.J. Riley came up with 8 points and a rebound; Daughtry McGhee scored six and contributed a rebound and a steal.
Bubba Nettles added five points, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block, while Caleb Davis rounded out EA’s scoring effort with three points, an assist and a steal.
With the loss, the Cougars now have a record of 1-4.
White added that in spite of the loss, he was pleased with the effort put forth by the team, with so few players available.
EA is slated to host Wilcox Academy next Tuesday, January 12.
