Despite a 15-point performance from T.J. Riley and a 13-point game from Daughtry McGhee, Escambia Academy’s Cougars are still seeking their first win of the season. EA launched a furious second-half comeback attempt but fell short (60-57) against Springwood Academy on December 10, falling to 0-3.
Springwood took an early lead and closed out the first period with a 31-14 advantage. EA attempted to regain control of the contest before the half but was not able to muster any offensive consistency.
The Cougars began to gain ground in the third period, outscoring Springwood 16-5, but the rally was too little, too late.
Riley not only led the Cougars in points, but also closed out the game with a 60-percent showing from the free-throw line, while McGhee hit on 50-percent of his shots from the field (6 of 12).
Bubba Nettles contributed nine points to the EA total, while Caleb Davis and Landon Sims chipped in with seven each, and Chase Helton scored four.
EA will travel this Friday, December 18, to play Edgewood Academy.
