MacArthur Davis 

Davis

Mr. MacArthur Davis, age 77, of Barnett Crossroads, Ala., passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at his residence. He was born in Century, Fla. to the late Mitchell O’Neal and Hazel Beatrice Lambert Davis. He served in the United States Army; former Police Chief of the City of Atmore; retired investigator with the Southern Portion of the State of Alabama Department of Corrections. He was a Mason, Past Master of Carney Lodge #549 and Huxford Lodge #779, 33rd Degree Mason, member of the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Eastern Star, The Order of the Amaranth and was a Shriner. He served in many elected and appointed offices of the Masonic Fraternity. He was a member, deacon and adult Sunday school teacher for over thirty years at New Bethlehem Baptist Church in Barnett Crossroads.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mitchell O’Neal Davis, Hazel Beatrice Lambert Davis and Pauline Bailey Davis; his siblings, Lyvonne Coleman, Earline Roberts and Bobby Howard Davis. 

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Nancy Grissett Davis. Had he lived until September 18, they would have been married fifty-six years; his son, Darren O’Neal Davis; his daughter, Pamela Denise (David) Cousins of Wetumpka, Ala.; his grandchildren, Danyell Davis, Courtney Davis, Haley Davis and Shelby Cousins; one great-grandson, Kyllo Scott; his sister-in-law, Mary E. Morgan; his brother-in-law, Jerry E. Grissett and many nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 20, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joe Lane officiating. Interment followed at New Bethlehem Cemetery with Masonic Honors. 

Active pallbearers were The Masons. 

The family received friends Saturday, September 19, 2020 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

James Titus Turner

Turner

Mr. James Titus Turner, age 81, of Atmore, Ala. passed away on Monday, September 14, 2020 in Fairhope, Ala. He was born in Jones County, Miss. to the late Alvin Harrison and Callie Dickens Turner. He attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was a retired truck driver and parts salesman of the oil field industry. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sheila Nix; his brothers, Willis Boone Turner, Alvin Lummos Turner; Rual Beech Turner and Thomas Ray Turner and his sisters, Dorothy Dimple Smith and Celeste Imogene Shoemake. 

Mr. Turner is survived by his wife of over twenty-five years, Dartha Grant Turner; his daughters, Samantha Turner and Sandra Turner, both of Jones County; his step-daughters, Jean Snodgrass and Thresa Tucker; brothers, Carl Winston Turner and Wilson Letrell (Pansy) Turner, all of Jones County; his sisters, Alice Vernice Craft of Mobile, Ala., Virginia Vasti (Conrad) Robertson of Jones County, Diane Johnson and Susan Johnson; his grandchildren, John, Addie, Ty and Lee; special great-grandson, Jereme Tucker, many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. 

Funeral service were held Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Beauchamp officiating. Interment followed at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. 

Active pallbearers were Keith Craft, Mike Turner, David Scruggs, Randall Turner, Stan Robertson, Ken Robertson and Jonathan Turner. 

Honorary pallbearers were Todd Bodiford, Dewayne Flowers, Perry Joe Buckhault and Andy Turner. 

The family received friends Saturday, September 19, 2020 from 10:30 a.m. until service time at 11:30 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

John R. “Johnny” Johnson

Mr. John R. “Johnny” Johnson, age 78, passed away Monday, September 14, 2020, after a long illness. He was born in Greenville, Ala. to the late Julius Robert Johnson and Sybil Pickens Johnson. He attended Monroe County High School where he played football and basketball. He worked in the family business and after high school graduation moved to Dallas, Texas where he attended Dallas Mortuary Science. Upon graduation he returned to Monroeville to work at Johnson Funeral Homes. Not only was he devoted to his family, he was also devoted to others and his community. He served on the Monroeville City Council for more than twenty years. He also served on the Conecuh-Monroe County Gas Board, the Monroeville Water Board, as well as serving as the Monroe County Coroner. He and his family were longtime members of the First Baptist Church of Monroeville where he also served as a deacon. After retirement to Orange Beach, Ala. he continued to enjoy his hobbies of fishing, hunting, spending time with his family and friends, walking their dog Nugget, collecting old coins and money, attending Auburn football games, traveling and eating delicious food. Johnny loved to eat and he loved to talk about eating.

During this stage of his life, he also loved spending time with his five grandchildren, Jack, Catherine, Grace, John and Pete. To them he was Big Daddy. He loved to watch them play football, basketball, lacrosse, and cheer. He took them hunting fishing and for boat rides. In 2016, Johnny, Dianne and their loving dog Sugar, moved to Birmingham, Ala., to live with their daughter Tara and her family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Kathy Johnson, his nephew Robby Quimby and his niece Kristen Saunders Crandall.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his loving soulmate, Dianne Cheatham Johnson; daughters, Jennifer Johnson Fruin (Peter) and Tara Johnson Elliot (Paul); five grandchildren, John Haninger Fruin, Catherine Dianne Fruin, Elizabeth Grace Elliott, John William Elliott and Robert Peter Fruin; sister, Julianne Johnson Quimby (Bobby); sisters-in-law, Janice Saunders (Richard) and Kathy Stuckey (Sonny); nieces and nephews, Toby Quimby (Maggie), Jessica Harris (Ashley), and Julie Stuckey; grand-niece, Kathleen Harris and grandnephews, Blake Quimby, Brad Quimby, Bryant Quimby, Preston Lowery and Steven Harris.

The family received friends from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday, September 21, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Monroeville, followed by the funeral at 1 p.m. Graveside to follow at Pineville Cemetery.

Lorraine Middleton Etheridge

Etheridge

Mrs. Lorraine Middleton Etheridge, age 94, passed away Friday, September 18, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Mineola, Ala. She was born in Old Texas, in Monroe County, Ala. Her family moved to Butler Street, and she finished high school at J.U. Blacksher in Uriah, Ala. She resided in Atmore, Ala. many years and then moved to Lottie, Ala. where she lived for thirty-two years. She resided in Canoe, Ala. for sixteen years, and The Meadows in Atmore for 3 ½ years.  She was a member of Lottie United Methodist Church and served faithfully with the United Methodist Women, and the cemetery committee. She loved to line dance, and was a big supporter of the Veterans, and was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion of Atmore.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great – grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was a precious sister, aunt, cousin, and a dear friend to many. She was always a hard worker, and maintained a beautiful smile and a positive attitude. She loved the Lord Jesus, and spent many quite hours with him.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Etheridge; a son, Ronnie Singleton; three brothers, Glenn Middleton, Leston Middleton and Harold Middleton; two sisters, Catherine McKenzie and Eloise Criswell and one daughter-in-law, Deborah Singleton.
Mrs. Etheridge is survived by four sons; Larry Singleton of Elberta, Ala.; Stanley Singleton (Marilyn), Bernard Etheridge (Pam) and Donnie Etheridge, all of Atmore; two daughters, Barbara Taylor (Larry) of Dayton, Texas and Kay Vickrey (Weldon) of Mineola, Ala.; one brother, Wendell Middleton (Verla) of Butler Street; three sisters, Doris Jaye (Kenneth) of Uriah, Ala.; Mickie Brown of Mobile, Ala. and Becky Pope (Tim) of Grand Bay, Ala.; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Mason; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren .
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Lottie Methodist Church with Sis. Kay Vickrey officiating. Burial will follow at Lottie Methodist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday, September 21, 2020 from 6 till 8 p.m. at Petty Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC.

Doris June Haynie

Haynie

Mrs. Doris June Haynie, age 79, passed away Friday, September 11, 2020 in Pensacola, Fla. She had resided in Bratt, Fla. most of her life. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed archery, loved crafts and crossword puzzles, etc. She was a seamstress with Vanity Fair and a member of the Bratt First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, Jerry Haynie; parents Robert “Jack” and Mae Blanche York and two brothers, Harold York and Claude York.
Mrs. Haynie is survived by her two sons, Stan Haynie and Tony (Kathy) Haynie, all of Bratt; one brother, Ronnie (Phylis) York of Little Rock, Ga.; three sisters, Betty (James) Amerson of Bratt, Gloria Ann Ledkins and Peggy (Billy) Mauldin, all of Atmore, Ala.; four grandchildren, Brandon Haynie, Derek Haynie, Clayton Stacey and T.J. Haynie; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 19, 2020 at noon at Bratt First Baptist Church with Bro. Tim Hawsey officiating. Burial followed at Godwin Cemetery.

Marie Mitchell

Mrs. Marie Mitchell, age 83, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at her home in Atmore, Ala. She was a native and life-long resident of Atmore. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her grandchildren dearly and was of the Assembly of God Faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.P. and Eunice Hobbs.
Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, John Mitchell of Atmore; three sons, Keith Mitchell and Ronnie Mitchell, both of Atmore, and Mike Mitchell of Wetumpka, Ala. and four grandchildren, Brat Mitchell and Travis Mitchell, both of Dothan, Ala., Tyler Mitchell of Auburn, Ala. and Rachel Mitchell of Wetumpka.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Gipson officiating. Burial will follow at the Serenity Garden Cemetery.

Larry Condrey 

Mr. Larry Condrey, age 57, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2020 at his home in Walnut Hill, Fla. He was a native of Atmore, Ala. and had resided in Walnut Hill, FL for the past thirty years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, avid fisherman and hunter. He was employed with Passin Thru Hauling with six years of service.

He was preceded in death by his son, J.W. Condrey; mother, Minnie Lois Garrett and step-father, Elvin Garrett.
Mr. Condrey is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Susan Condrey of Walnut Hill; two daughters, Ashley Condrey of Walnut Hill and Amanda Condrey of Webb, Ala.; father-in-law, Earl and Juanita Gunn of Huxford, Ala. and six grandchildren, Noah Condrey, Justin Powell, Andrew Powell, Haley Cooper, Alexis Condrey and Nicholas Condrey.
Funeral services were held Sunday, September 20, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pine Barren Cemetery.

Ms. Iesha McNeil, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, September 29, 2020 at her home.
