Atmore’s Church’s Chicken inexplicably shut its doors, apparently for good, last week. City officials said they have no idea why the chicken restaurant closed, that nobody from the company alerted them of the closing and that Church’s has operated here since “at least 2001.”

News Staff Report At the last West Escambia Utilities Board meeting, June 17, Jim Johnson stepped down as chairman, ending a 25-year tenure as head of the board, although he intends to remain a member. Johnson joined the board in August 1992 and became chairman in December 1994. When Johnson stepped down, Dr. Ullysses McBride became chairman. Dr. McBride joined the board in June 1995.
