Opal Maxine Gibson

Mrs. Opal Maxine Gibson, age 77, passed away Monday, March 30, 2020 at her home in Laurel Hill, Fla. She was a native of Bay Minette, Ala. and had resided in Laurel Hill for the past three years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, A.B. and Ralphine McDill; infant daughter, Melanie Loree Gibson; two brothers, Brooks McDill and Billy McDill and sister, Jeanette McMillan.
Mrs. Gibson is survived by her husband of years fifty-eight years and ten months, Tony Gibson of Laurel Hill; one brother, Jerry Perkins of Bay Minette, Ala. and two sisters, Vermelle McDill of New Orleans, La. and Dorothy Moody of Bay Minette.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at 2 p.m. at the Bay Minette Cemetery with Dr. Henry Cox officiating.

Jeraldean Buckhault Reed

Mrs. Jeraldean Buckhault Reed, age 73, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at her residence in Bay Minette, Ala. She was a native of Atmore, Ala. and has resided in Bay Minette for the past forty-six years. She was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister who dearly loved the Lord. She was a dedicated homemaker and faithful church member who also found much joy in working with the handicapped.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years, Hubert Reed; parents, Johnnie and Helen Buckhault and brother, Jean Buckhault.

Mrs. Reed is survived by three children, Hubert S. (Daphne) Reed Jr. and Felisa Reed (Lenzy) Williams, all of Bay Minette and Jason Carl (Ashley) Reed of Perdido, Ala.; brother, Billy Ray Buckhault of Robertsdale, Ala; sister-in-law, Sherry Buckhault of Atmore, AL; seven grandchildren, Allie (Matt) Shackelford, Carlie Reed, Sydney Reed, Emily Williams, Jas Reed, Mary Kinsley Reed and Layne Tip Reed; five great grandchildren, Blayne Shackelford, Jordyn Shackelford, Mattie Shackelford, Ellie Shackelford and Beau Reed Boudreaux and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 2, 2020 at noon at Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Kenny Fillingim officiating. Burial followed at Miller Cemetery.

The family received friends Thursday, April 2, 2020 from 11 a.m. until service time at noon at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Matt Shackelford, Blayne Shackeford, Duane Shackleford, Joey Williams, Lenzy Williams and Chaynce Eady.

Mona Causey Jones

Jones

Mrs. Mona Causey Jones, age 84, of Hueytown, Ala., passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2020 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Fairfield, Ala. but lived most of her adult life in Hueytown.

She was preceded in death by her parent, Dr. Murray Causey and Mrs. Monabelle Causey Whitefield; step-father, Mr. Calvin Whitfield; siblings, Rose Howse and Murray (son) Causey and grandson, Charles (Charlie) Monroe Jones.

Mrs. Jones is survived by three sons, H. Frank, Jr. (Jackie) Jones of Cullman, Ala., David W. (Glenda) Jones of Pleasant Grove, Ala., Jason C. (Shelley) Jones of Brierfield, Ala. and one daughter, Audrey (Matt) Moon of Atmore, Ala.; grandchildren and great-grandchild, Alex, Brighton and their daughter Juniper Jones, Eric Jones, Thomas Jones, Daniel and Scotti Jones, Colton and Emily Jones, Allison Jones, Erin and Adam Salyers, and Chase Childress; sister-in-law, Patricia Causey and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, other family members and loved ones.

Johns-Ridout’s Mortuary-Elmwood, Birmingham, AL will handle arrangements at a later date.

Brian Chess Helton

Mr. Brian Chess Helton, age 39, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, April 3, 2020 in Pensacola, Fla.. He was born in Mobile, Ala., to Chester “Chet” Jr. and Linda Kaye Singleton Helton. He was a sales representative most of his life.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Chester, Sr. and Mabel Helton and his maternal grandparents, Bernard and Mavis Singleton.

Mr. Helton is survived by his parents, Chester “Chet” Jr. and Kaye Helton of Atmore, Ala.; one brother, Chad (Suzanne) Helton of Atmore and one sister, Ashley (Brad) Trawick of Atmore; nieces and nephews, Taylor Helton (Austin) Lee, Brett (Hannah) Helton, Chaston Helton, Avery Trawick and Charlie Trawick; great nieces, Ella Kate Lee and Maggie Scott Lee.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Constance “Connie” Hartzog

Mrs. Constance “Connie” Hartzog, age 80, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2020 in Foley, Ala. She was a native of Louisville, Ala. and had resided in Atmore, Ala. for most of her life. She was owner of Connie’s Alterations and was known for making prom dresses. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Foy Lane Hartzog.
Mrs. Hartzog is survived by her son, Rodney DeLane (Frances) Hartzog of Prattville, Ala.; daughter, Lynn (Randy) Williams of Foley; five grandchildren, LaDana Robinson, Matthew Williams, Heather Gunn, Miranda Bell and Adam Hartzog and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Alexandra DeShay Owens (Maye)

Mrs. Alexandra DeShay Owens (Maye), age 26, of Mobile, Ala., passed away Sunday, April 5, 2020. She was born to Katina Riley and James Owens in Atmore, Ala. She was a 2012 graduate of Escambia County High School and had attended Coastal Community College in Bay Minette, Ala. She was CEO and Founder of Brighter Future Solutions. In her leisure she enjoyed going to the beach and hanging with family and friends. She was awarded the Pinnacle Award of Courage at the 2019 Grind Awards Ceremony in Mobile.

Mrs. Maye is survived by her husband, Tony Maye of Mobile; son, Austin Maye of Atmore; mother and stepfather, Katina and Oscar McCarty of Atmore; father, James Owens of Convent, La.; sister, Amelia Owens of Atmore; grandparents, Bobby and Mary Riley of Atmore; aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Annette Lee  

Lee

Ms. Annette Lee, age 64, of Rock Island, Ill., formerly of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, March 21, 2020 in Rock Island. She was a longtime resident of Rock Island. She had been employed at International Harvester and Service Rubber. She was a member of People’s Missionary Baptist Church in Rock Island. In her leisure time she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and listening to music. As well as, enjoying her Saturdays eating KFC with her son, Rodney.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Annie Melvin Lee; sister, Mildred Lee; brother, Alvin Johnson; sister-in-law, Eunice Johnson; three nephews, Scottie Barron, Phillip (PJ) Young, and Ervin Angel Lee; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Ms. Lee is survived by her son, Rodney D. Lee of Moline, Ill.; three sisters, Dorothy (Ray) Marshall and Earnestine (Willie) Barron all of Atmore and Cindy Lee of Knoxville, Tenn.; one brother, Ervin (Danice) Lee, Jr. of Atmore; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Private graveside services were held Saturday, April 4, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Ledell Johnson, Jr. officiating.

Verdell Montgomery-Malone

Ms. Verdell Montgomery-Malone, age 60, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2020. She was a resident of the Freemanville Community most of her life. She was a member of the Escambia County High School Class of 1978. She had been employed with Flowerwood Nursery, Vanity Fair, and several local businesses, most recently with Wind Creek Casino.

She was preceded n death by her parents, Frank and Emma Mae Montgomery; her twin, Vernell Montgomery; sisters, Jettie Mae Thames and Joyce Williams; brothers, Jake Wilson, Carlos and Clifford Montgomery; grandmother, Mollie Browder; aunt, Betty Jo Dailey; uncle, Fred English.

Ms. Malone is survived by her children, Tamanique Malone and Don Moorer, Jr.; forever partner, Don Moorer, Sr.; grandchildren, Keon Malone and My’Kel French; sisters, Velma  Redmond, Barbara (Elvin) Gulley, Rosaline Moore, Shelia (John) Williams, Merenda (Toby) Goton an Paulette Askew; brothers, Otis Wilson and Michael Montgomery; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 4, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Elder John Williams officiating.

Pallbearers were her nephews.

Flower bearers were her nieces.
