John Steven Watson

Mr. John Steven Watson, age 75, passed away Monday, February 17, 2020 in Pensacola, Fla.
He was a native and resident of Jay, Fla. and had spent most of his life in the Byrneville, Fla. community. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict serving with the U.S. Marine Corp. He was a retired truck driver, loved playing the guitar, loved horses and race cars. He was a member of the Byrneville Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Vendell Watson and brother, Gary Watson.
Mr. Watson is survived by his wife of fifty years, Louise Levins Watson of Jay, Fla.; three sons, Keith (Keely) Watson of Chipley, Fla., Kevin (Lindy) Watson of Dexter, Ga. and Brian (Dawn) Watson of Birmingham, Ala.; two brothers, Tommie Watson and Danny Watson, both of Mobile, Ala.; seventeen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services were held Friday, February 21, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Byrneville Methodist Cemetery.
The family received friends Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Joshua Watson, Wyatt Watson, Bradley Watson, Brayden Watson, Kalib Watson, Breanna Watson and Wynter Watson.

Paul D. Enfinger 

Enfinger

Rev. Paul D. Enfinger, age 81, of Davisville, Fla., passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020 in Pensacola, Fla. He was born on in Dale County, Ala. to the late A.V. and Daisy Smith Enfinger. He was a hardworking man and worked many jobs during his life. He was a life guard, a disc jockey “Perky Paul”, owned Enfinger Plumbing Company, worked at Vogtle Nuclear Plant, School Bus Driver, Prison Guard, served in the United States Army and he enjoyed farming. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and loved his family and friends but most of all he loved the Good Lord. He was passionate about his ministry which he served over forty-five years. He was a missionary, pastored five church’s during his life and then he founded Calvary Deliverance Temple in Davisville pastoring for over thirty-five years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill Enfinger, Gary Enfinger and a sister, Ruth Ellis.

Rev. Enfinger is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Sheila McZilkey Enfinger of Davisville; two sons, Brian Enfinger of Little Rock, Ala. and Doug Jordon of Dothan, Ala.; one daughter, Gwen Enfinger of Little Rock, Ala.; one sister, Jewel Myers of Panama City, Fla.; three grandchildren, Derek Brooks, Kristy Rucker, Caleb Kyle Enfinger; three great-grandchildren, Christian Brooks, T.J. Brooks, Elijah Brooks and many family and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. at Calvary Deliverance Temple in Davisville with Bro. Wendell Hadley and Bro. Floyd Hutto officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Brandon Wall, Bobby Matthews, Eric McZilkey, Eddie McZilkey, Daren Carnley and Paul Brown.

The family received friends Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 10 a.m. until service time at 11:30 a.m. at Calvary Deliverance Temple.

William “Bill” Brandt

Mr. William “Bill” Brandt, age 75, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020 in Pensacola, Fla. He was a native of Century, Fla. a former resident of Flomaton, Ala. and had resided in Uriah, Ala. since 1988. He was former owner of Bill’s Truck Stop in Flomaton. He was of the Jehovah Witness Faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl E. Brandt and Maggieline Rigby and brother, Charles Ray Amos.
Mr. Brandt is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Charlyn Brandt of Uriah; one brother, Edward Eugene Brandt of Hutchinson, Kans.; special friends, James (Linda) Selzer of Baldwin Co., Ala. and Ricky Williams of Uriah; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Elder Richard Ash officiating. Burial followed at Rigby Cemetery.

Joyce Louise Johnson

Mrs. Joyce Louise Johnson, age 84, of Spanish Fort, Ala., passed away in her home Thursday, February 20, 2020. She was a member of Spanish Trail Baptist Church, an avid gardener, and a talented seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Wilson and Willardine Sims; husband, Edward W. Johnson and son, James “Jimmy” Johnson.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughter, Carol Nabors of Spanish Fort; grandchildren, Allison Nabors Jones (Michael) of New Orleans, La., Kevin Nabors (Alyssa) of Mobile, Ala., Melisa Nabors Everett (Chad) of Foley, Ala. and Jamey Johnson of Ft. Worth, Texas; great-grandchildren, Caroline Jones, Ethan, Landon and Kayden Everett and Jace Johnson; many other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 24, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Daphne, Ala. Interment was held at Serenity Gardens in Atmore, Ala. at 2 p.m.

The family received friends Monday, February 24, 2020 beginning at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Rudy Clay Cooper

Mr. Rudy Clay Cooper, age 56, passed away Friday, February 21, 2020 at his home in Bay Minette, Ala. He was a native of Bay Minette, former resident of Loxley, Ala. and had resided in Bay Minette for the past twenty years. He was a member of the New Hope Community Church in Rabun, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howell Rudolph Cooper; grandmother, Bessie Lee Christian and brother, Vincent Ray Cooper.
Mr. Cooper is survived by his mother, Jean Elizabeth Cooper of Bay Minette; wife of seven years, Debbie Cooper of Bay Minette; children, Tori (Dan) Reed and Dallas Durant, all of Bay Minette, Leslie Boutwell and Shannon Boutwell, all of Uriah, Ala., Patrick Heuer of Mobile, Ala.; step-daughters, Devin (William) Robertson of Perdido, Ala. and Brittany (Trey) Dueitt of Bay Minette; siblings, Howell Slay (Rhonda) Cooper, Stacy Lynn (Angel) Cooper, Cody Lee Cooper and Carlos Wade Cooper, all of Bay Minette and Tracy Jean (Johnny) Brown of Perdido; twenty-nine grandchildren; one great-grandson and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Stapleton Church of God with Bro. J.P. Lambert and Bro. Doug Armentrout officiating. Burial followed at Whitehouse Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends Tuesday, February 25, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. until service time at 10 a.m. at Stapleton Church of God.
Pallbearers were Tyler Vinson, Josh Vinson, Tony Buxton, Shawn Cooper, Michael Cooper, Matthew Cooper and Casey Cooper.

Lynn Ervin Powell

Mr. Lynn Ervin Powell, age 65, of Canoe, Ala., passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020. He was born in Pensacola, Fla. to the late K.C. and Cordie Hopkins Powell He was a millwright at Georgia-Pacific in Brewton, Ala.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Audrey Diane Powell.

Mr. Powell is survived by his two sons, Josh (April) Powell and Jesse Powell, all of Kansas; two brothers, Rodney Powell of Gulf Shores, Ala. and Bodie Baker of Oklahoma; two sisters, Gail Godwin of Andalusia, Ala. and Jane Robbins of Texas; four grandchildren, Alexis Powell, Jesse Lambert, Addison Powell and Jimmy Lambert.

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 23, 2020 at 2 p.m. from Atmore Memorial Chapel. Interment followed in Serenity Gardens.

James (Jimmy) Dean

Mr. James (Jimmy) Dean, age 53, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, February 22, 2020.

He was born in Atmore to Shelvia Keel Dean and Robert Earl Dean. He attended Escambia County High School lettering in baseball and football. He was a member of the 1983 state championship football team. The Blue Devils went 13-2 that season to take the 3A state title, an accomplishment that Jimmy was forever proud of. In 1984, Jimmy pursued a collegiate baseball career that began at Patrick Henry Junior College, where he led the team in hitting his freshman year. He then transferred to the University of Montevallo for a short time before finishing his career at Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM). He was named Offensive Player of the Year while at AUM. ​

He was a respected law enforcement officer with over twenty-five years of experience, serving the city of Atmore, the state of Alabama, and the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. In 1995, he became a graduate of the Alabama State Trooper Academy Class 94-A. He served the State of Alabama for twenty-two years, retiring in 2016. Shortly following his retirement, he continued to serve his community as a Tribal Police Officer with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. ​

He played many roles in many lives. Aside from his role within his family, Jimmy was a friend, coach, and servant of God, something he proclaimed until his death. His personality, selflessness, and genuine care for others attracted so many over the years. His ability to make people laugh will forever be remembered. The stories are endless and will forever be held dear to our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Earl Dean; maternal grandmother and grandfather, Carolyn Louise Keel and J.C. Keel; paternal grandmother and grandfather, Edna Earl Sadler and Robert Comer Sadler, Jr.; daughter, Maggie Pearl Caraway; and father-in-law, John A. McGhee. ​

Mr. Dean is survived by his mother, Shelvia Keel Dean of Atmore; one brother, Ricky Dean of Atmore; one sister, Jena (Perry) Duke of Mobile, Ala.; wife, Kimberly Dean of Atmore; three sons, Jon (Malori) Dean, James (Emily) Dean and Mason (Catie) Dean, all of Atmore; one daughter, Miranda (Brandon) Hudson of Atmore; two grandchildren, Porter James Dean and Carson Elizabeth Johnson, both of Atmore; numerous other extended family members, close friends, and his Alabama State Trooper Family.​

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 10 a.m. at McCullough Christian Center with Rev. Josh Long and Bro. Don Davis officiating.​ Burial will follow at Serenity Garden Cemetery.​

The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 26, 2020 from 6 to 9 p.m. at  ​Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.​

​Pallbearers will be Doug Darby, John Fields, Willie Locke, Brian McGill, John Stallworth, Justin Williams, Craig Helton and Norman McCallister.​

​Honorary pallbearers will be the Poarch Creek Tribal Police Department and all  ​other Law Enforcement and First Responders.​

Rodney Eugene Howell

Howell

Mr. Rodney Eugene Howell, age 53, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2020. He was a native of Molino, Fla. He was a Christian and grew up in the Assembly of God Church. He was an avid dirt track racer since 1986 and was known as the “Triple Nickle” racing at Florida and Alabama tracks. He always had a project going either in the yard in his racecar shop. He worked as a welder/fabricator. His love for racing built many long lasting relationships with people whom he considered family. He will be remembered as a “True Racer” and a dirt track legend by the racing community. He took his last checkered flag crossing the finish line into heaven on February 22, 2020. May his memory be eternal.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Earline Howell and grandparents, Annie and Buck Godwin, Farrell Howell and Narvie Lee and Agnes White.

Mr. Howell is survived by his wife of three years, Andrea Howell of Molino; three sons, Joshua Lee (Danielle) Howell of Milton, David Thompson and Daniel Thompson, both of Pensacola, Fla.; one sister, Robin Howell (Rico) Padilla of McDavid, Fla.; one grandson, Jackson Lee Howell and two nephews, Hunter Cofield and Levi Cofield both of McDavid, Fla.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 1l a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. James Gay officiating. Burial will follow at Traveler’s Rest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 25, 2020 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Charles “Charlie” Monroe Jones

Mr. Charles “Charlie” Monroe Jones, age 18, of Brierfield, Ala., passed away Thursday, February 20, 2020. He was born to Jason Causey Jones and Shelley Burke Jones. He attended University Church of Christ Academy and was dually enrolled at the University of Alabama where he was a scholarship recipient. Charlie signed a bid from Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. He loved singing and playing his guitar at every opportunity. He lit up every room he entered.

He was preceded in death by grandfather, Hugh Frank Jones, Sr.; and uncles, Kevin Porter and Chris Smith.
Charlie is survived by his parents; siblings, Colton Burke (Emily) Jones and Allison Elizabeth Jones; grandparents, Mona Jones, Neil (Elaine) Monroe, and Charles Burke and Betsy Rogers; uncles, Frank (Jackie) Jones, David (Glenda) Jones, Matt (Audrey) Moon and Rick Brooks; aunts, Helen Reuland, Dorothy Walker, and Becky Goodwin; cousins, Alex (Brighton) Jones, Eric Jones, Thomas Jones, Daniel (Scotty) Jones, Erin (Adam) Slayer, Chase Childress, Georgia Hendricks and Catherine Hendricks; best friend, Ryan King; and a host of family and friends.

His Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Rockco Funeral Home with burial following at Ashby Cemetery.

Nola Mae Watts

Watts

Ms. Nola Mae Watts, age 81, of Century, Fla., passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Jay Hospital in Jay, Fla. She was a native of Atmore (Freemanville Community) and had been a resident of Century for most of her life. She was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School in Century and a member of Pilgrim Lodge Baptist Church for over seventy years serving as a Choir Member, a member of the Missionary Society, and a Sunday school teacher. She had worked as a school cafeteria worker for many years. In her leisure time, she loved working in her yard with her flowers, cooking, listening to gospel music, spending time with her family, and working cross word puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra “Toot” Watts; her parents, Bessie Riley Thomas and Norah Marshall; her step-parents, Tommie Thomas and Cora Marshall, and a brother, Eddie Peavy.

Ms. Watts is survived by one daughter, Vanessa (Robert) Watts – McMillan of Pensacola, Fla.; three sons, Norman (Bettie) Watts of Brewton, Ala., Cedrick Taylor of Century and David (Tiffany) Watts of Montgomery, Ala.; four sisters, Mary Lucas and Elnora Marshall both of California, Bernice Adams of Little Rock, Calif. and Deloris Moffett of Pensacola; two brothers, Tommie Lee Thomas of Brewton and Willie James (Charlene) Edwards of Century; thirteen grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Pilgrim Lodge Baptist Church – 7000 Jefferson Circle, Century with Rev. Michael Stewart, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Century Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, February 28, 2020 from 2 – 5 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home and from 6 – 8 p.m. at Pilgrim Lodge Baptist Church. Her body will lie in repose at the church on Saturday from noon until funeral service time.

Mary Helen Dortch of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, February 21, 2020 at her home.

Tara Denise Ballard

Mrs. Tara Denise Ballard, age 47, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, February 14, 2020. She was born in Atmore to Cathy (Ron) Norris and Albert Lee Jones. She was a 1990 graduate of Escambia County High School. She was a lifetime member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church serving as a youth director, choir leader and Sunday school superintendent. She had been employed throughout her life by Atmore Community Hospital, Vanity Fair, Z-tel, Fred’s and Walmart Pharmacy until her health declined.

She was preceded in death by her father; grandparents, Jimmie Lee Johnson, Buford and Lillie Bell Jones.

Mrs. Ballard is survived by her parents; husband, Lesley Ballard of Atmore; three sons, Pastor Brian L. Johnson, Derrick L. Johnson and Joshua S. Peoples, all of Atmore; four grandchildren, Jordan E. Johnson, Bryson Johnson, Joshua S. Peoples, Jr. and Josiah S. Peoples; five sisters, Courtney Norris of Fayetteville, N.C., Taylor Norris of Norfolk, Va., LaQujitta Jones Palmer of Tenn., Yteria Dortch and Alicia Adams, both of Atmore; one brother, Jonathan Norris of Fayetteville; aunts and uncles; devoted and special family and friends; four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Greater Mt. Triumph Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Willie Hawthorne, Host Pastor, Rev. Brian L. Johnson, Eulogist and Rev. Dr. Monroe tucker, Jr. presiding. Interment followe3d in Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were cousins and the Class of 1990.
