UB offers free tax preparation, assistance

United Bank will serve as a partner organization with the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to provide certified volunteers to offer free tax assistance for those with low-to-moderate incomes, generally 2019 income totals of $56,000 or less. Through March 31, VITA drop off sites will be located at Bay Minette Courthouse Square, Frisco City, Foley and Atmore branches, along with traditional VITA appointments in Atmore at the Atmore Public Library. In its ninth year, United Bank has assisted with 872 returns since this program’s inception.
As an additional option, all income levels are welcome to use https://www.myfreetaxes.com/ for online tax self-preparation of their federal and state returns for free through a partnership with VITA and United Way Worldwide. Follow the links to login once the page loads to create a user id and password. Taxpayers are able to file simple taxes, (no Schedules C, D or E). It is user friendly through mobile phone, tablet or computer.

All taxpayers must provide an ID (including spouse ID), a social security card for each person on their return, birth dates, all forms W2s, 1099s and 1098s, last year’s tax return, direct deposit information, and any other additional documents.
