Scott Louis Johnson
Mr. Scott Louis Johnson, age 80, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2020. He was born to the late Scott (SJ) and Bessie Mae (Gulley) Johnson in McCullough, Ala. He was educated in the New York and Ohio school systems. He received an AA degree while living in California. He retired from AT&T. He started a personal business and formed a partnership business with Jeff Gardner in Atmore, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Francis Fennell; parents; sister, Vernell Graham; brothers, Willie Lee Johnson and Ezekiel Robert Johnson.
Mr. Johnson is survived by eight children, Darlene Cornia, Robbin (Wesley) Imada, Lorraine (Carter) Haynes, Norris Hayes, Sherry McClumum, Lenize Johnson, Artemos Kale and Norris (Heather) Hayes, Derrick (Rochelle) McCullough of Freemon, Calif; siblings, Elmarease J. Hicks, Alice Gott, Irene Romney; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends with Aunt Emma, Uncle Cliff and Negretta being beloved.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of McCullough with Reverend Dr. Charles Jones, Pastor officiating. The family will have a private inhumation service.
Pallbearers will be Erick Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Kenny Rae Staples, Johnny Shell, Wade Johnson, III and Willie Harris.
Honorary pallbearers will be Florenzo Johnson, Wade Johnson, Jr., Clifford Thomas and Wade Johnson, Sr.

Edwin Leroy Whatley
Mr. Edwin Leroy Whatley, age 75, of Bratt, Fla., passed away Monday, January 20, 2020 in Pensacola, Fla. He was born in Ringgold, Ga. to the late Earnest Levell and Rose Marie Fowler Whatley. He served in the United States Navy. He was a commercial truck driver for over forty-seven years then later retired from White’s Pallets in Flomaton, Ala. Mr. Whatley enjoyed woodworking and building birdhouses.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ronnie Whatley, Jerry Whatley and Leon Whatley.
Mr. Whatley is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Shirley Amerson Whatley of Bratt; a son, David (Sherri) Amerson of Enterprise, Ala.; a step-daughter, Patricia Warnock of Coral Gables, Fla. and an adopted daughter. Mary Ellen “Polly” Yate of Parrish, Ala.; one brother, Leabron (Revia) Whatley of Crosby, Texas; two sisters, Bevalon McBryar of Kingsport, Tenn. and Pam (Joe) Hart of Ohatchee, Ala.; grandson, Logan Pace; grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ricky Hart officiating. Burial followed in Bratt-Godwin Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Greg Hart, Ed Whatley, Everette Whatley, Mike Amerson, Steve Amerson and Clifford Amerson.
Honorary pallbearers were the Men of Hanks Road.
The family received friends Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 11:30 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Jessie Lee Jay
Mrs. Jessie Lee Jay, age 83, of Atmore, Ala., passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 in Pensacola, Fla. She was born in Lower Peach, Ala. to the late Lewis Fredrick and Annie Elizabeth Jay.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Edward Jay; a brother, Bo Green and sisters, Martha Griffin, Annie Laura Welch and Edith Heatherington.
Mrs. Jay is survived by her children, George Allen (Shelly) Jay, Frank Edward (Karen) Jay, Julia Elizabeth Norwood, all of Atmore, Ala. and Laura Lee (Paul) McKinley of Callahan, Fla.; two brothers, Jim (Faye) Green of Red Level, Ala. and Lewis (Joann) Green of Rocky Hill, Ala.; four sisters, Margaret Johnson of Stockton, Ala., Della Chunn and Sadie Chunn, both of Rocky Hill and Frances Brown of Frisco City, Ala.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 26, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Allen Chase officiating. Burial followed in Rocky Hill Cemetery.

Willie T. English
Mr. Willie T. English, age 89, of Walnut Hill, Fla., passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2020 in Walnut Hill. He was a Forest Ranger for the State of Florida. He was born in Pineville, Fla. to the late Thomas and Fannie Rolin English.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Minnie Ruth English; son, William English; sister, Evelyn Spence.
Mr. English is survived by two sons, Bill (Angie) English and Thomas English all of Walnut Hill; five grandchildren, Erin Karaim, Gunnar English, Daniel English, Emily English, and Lindsey Shepley; three sisters, Jessie Kelly of Satsuma, Ala., Amy Arthur of Michigan and Ola Quinley of Bay Minette, Ala.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 11 a.m. from Dry Springs Community Church with Bro. Joe Gipson officiating. Interment followed in Dry Springs Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Harold English, John McCullough, Steve McCullough, Jessie Grimes, Riley Mitchell and Daniel English.

Rufus “Buck” McClain
Mr. Rufus “Buck” McClain, age 79, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2020 in Pensacola, Fla. He was native of Boykin, Ala., former resident of Conecuh County, Ala. and had resided in Atmore, Ala. for the past seven years. He was a retired logger.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Bradley and parents, Frank and Mary Voncile McClain.
Mr. McClain is survived by one son, Anthony McClain of Houston, Texas; one brother, Frankie McClain of Brewton, Ala.; two sisters, Theresa McClain of Atmore and Eva Mae Heard of Moss Point, Miss. and nephew, Robert (Ida Mae) McClain of Atmore.

Shirley Marilyn Vickrey Fayard
Mrs. Shirley Marilyn Vickrey Fayard, age 81, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, January 23, 2020 in Atmore. She was born in Huxford, Ala. to the late Bernard E. “Bunk” and Daisy Myrtle Kent Vickrey. She was a faithful member of Presley Street Baptist Church serving as a Sunday school teacher, pianist and member of the choir. She retired from First National Bank of Atmore after forty-eight years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Billy Turberville; brothers, Lawrence Vickrey and Doug Vickrey.
She is survived by her husband H. Curtis Fayard of Atmore; three sons, Greg (Kelly) Turberville of Enterprise, Ala.; Mike (Terri) Fayard of Seminole, Ala. and Bryan (Candace) Fayard of Flomaton, Ala.; two sisters, Nell Owens and Ann (Larry) Davis, all of Atmore; one brother, Weldon (Kay) Vickrey of Mineola, Ala.;five grandchildren Erin, Kaylee, Cody, Emily and Curt; three great-grandchildren Arabella, Owen and Finn.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 27, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Presley Street Baptist Church with Rev. Joseph Simpson, officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Mark Anthony Brown, age 61, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at his home in Atmore, Ala. He was a life-long resident of Atmore. He owned and operated Atmore Tune Up. He was a member of the Atmore First Assembly of God Church.
He was preceded in death by his father James Brown and a son Cody Matthew Brown.
Mr. Brown is survived by his mother, Clara Copeland of Atmore; loving wife of thirty-six years, Sandra S. Brown of Atmore; one son, Joshua Mark and Allison Brown of Atmore; three brothers, Blane and Pam Brown of Foley, Ala., Bobby and Wanda Brown of Magnolia Springs, Ala. and Lloyd Copeland of Atmore; one sister, Marilyn and David Dees of Lee, Fla.; three grandchildren, Madison, Molly and Cody Brown and numerous nieces, nephews, his church family and many friends .
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 26, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Atmore First Assembly of God Church with Bro. Don Davis officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Ricky Phillips, age 58, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020. He was born in Detroit, Mich. He worked as a construction worker for many years until his health failed.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ben Lizzie Jane) Phillips; three brothers, Robert Phillips, Clevelend (Shag) Finklea and Tommy Finklea, all of Atmore.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife, Rosa Lee Philips; mother, Climmie Edwards of New York; one daughter, Airmis Phillips; eight step-daughters, all of Detroit; three brothers, Charles Phillips and Clyde Edwards, Clyde Edwards and Christopher Edwards; four sisters, Carolyn (Charles) Scott and Barbara Finklea, Cydell (Auddie) Simmons and Constance (Clarence) Edwards; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Phillips and Shelly Finklea; sixteen step-children; three step-grandchildren and three step-great-great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Holy Community Center in Atmore with Elder Irma Jean Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
