An Atmore woman escaped injury when her car slammed into a wayward horse that wandered onto a Florida highway shortly before sunrise, January 8.
According to Florida Highway Patrol reports, 50-year-old Katie Dailey of Atmore was traveling northward in her 2012 Dodge Avenger around 6 a.m. when the horse “was traveling west across U.S. 29, north of Duxbury Avenue,” near Molino, Fla.
Reports show that Ms. Dailey “failed to observe the horse in the roadway, due to the lack of light,” causing her vehicle to hit it.
The horse “toppled over the hood of the Dodge and landed in the inside lane on U.S. 29,” the report reads.
Meanwhile, a northbound Ford F150, driven by John Yuhasz, 31, of Molino, ran into the horse, causing the truck to “travel off (the) road onto the grass median and into the southbound lanes of travel, where it collided with the left side of a Chevy Silverado driven by 23-year-old Makayla Kreakbaum of Molino.
FHP troopers reported that none of the drivers were injured in the mishap, and no charges were filed, but “the horse did not survive.”
