Escambia County High’s Lady Blue Devils received a late Christmas gift, as wins over Citronelle, 55-41, and Southern Choctaw, 40-22, on December 26-27, earned them a first-place finish in the John Traylor Christmas Tournament in Washington County.
After defeating Citronelle, ECHS squared off against Southern Choctaw for the tournament championship.
During the title game, C’Anna Betts scored 19 points to lead the Lady Blue Devils to victory, and Makayla Lyons complemented the performance with 15 points.
“Betts and Lyons are huge leaders for us,” ECHS head coach Layton Knight said. “They step up big for us offensively. Jayla Adams also adds a presence as our leading rebounder. I am proud of my girls and the way they played.”
Jayla Adams scored four points during the win against Citronelle, while Deandria Adams and Latressa Knight added two points each.
With the victories, the Lady Devils evened their season record at 6-6.
ECHS will travel to face Williamson High next Tuesday, January 7.
