Mary Frances Smith

Mrs. Mary Frances Smith, age 77, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, November 18, 2019 at her residence. She drove a truck and worked at Buster’s Restaurant for many years. She also owned Ramblin Rose. She was born in Georgiana, Ala. to the late Arthur and Inez Johnson Stokes.

She was preceded by her parents; two daughters, Kathy Harrison and Angela
Stoll; a brother, Mack Stokes.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of fifty-one years, Aubrey Smith of Atmore; one son,
Aubrey “Sonny Man” (Faye) Smith of Turnerville, Ala.; five daughters, Janet Hayes of St. Stephens, Ala., Judith (Rusty) Zeller of Picaynne, Miss., Jackie (Larry) Kiper of Saraland, Ala., Jeannie (Wayne) Crabtree of Semmes, Ala., Kimberly Turner of Mt. Vernon, Ala.; step-daughters, Vicky (Don) Williams of McCullough, Ala., Lisa (Ricky) Ward of Excel, Ala. and Michelle (Claude) Turberville of Saraland, Ala.; one brother, Lester (Naomi) Stokes of Crenshaw Co, Ala.; twenty-four grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 22, 2019 at noon from Johnson-Quimby
Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Glenn Barnhill officiating. Graveside services followed at 2 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Saraland, Ala.

The family received friends Friday, November 22, 2019 from 11 a.m. until service time at noon at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were Tommy Primm, Timothy Primm, Jason Vickery, Michael Thomas, Bo Ward, and Jesse Ward.

Vanessa Cerise White Hayes 

Hayes

Mrs. Vanessa Cerise White Hayes, age 60, of Mobile, Ala., passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2019. She attended C. F. Vigor High School and Bishop State Community College. She was employed 20 years in the industrial sector, finally retiring as a domestic caregiver.  She joined Liberty Missionary Baptist Church faithfully serving on the Pastor’s Aid Board, the Women’s Ministry, and managed the “Lords Kitchen” providing bereavement services.

Mrs. Hayes is survived by her husband of 18 years, Willie G. Hayes; two devoted daughters Ukecia “Nikki” White and LaBrandi Covey (Billy, Jr.) McFadden, both of Mobile; devoted parents, Deacon and Mrs. Monroe and Carolyn White of Prichard, Ala.; four sisters, Sharon Pickett, Varion (Levi) Eaton, Gabriel (Johnny) Johnson and Dr. Kim White (Bert, Jr.) Powell, all of Mobile; two brothers, Monroe (Gwendolyn) White, Jr., of Houston, Texas and James Rembert of Mobile; two adopted siblings, Tylando White and Jacaila White of Mobile; three grandchildren, Caroleshia “Kelly” (Marcus) White-Tower of Jackson, Miss. and Haleigh and Joshua McFadden of Mobile; three great-grandsons, DeSean Monroe White, Charleston Jeremiah White and Maycen Gabriel White-Tower all of Jackson; Godmother, Zeola Marshall, and a god-daughter Mackensie Denard, both of Mobile and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, relatives, friends, and church members.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church,  1759 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Avenue, Mobile, AL 36617 with Rev. Dr. Clyde Maye, Jr., Pastor and Eulogist. Interment will follow at Plateau Cemetery, Plateau, Africa Town, USA.

Katie Lois Carlee

Mrs. Katie Lois Carlee, age 92, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, November 24, 2019 in Atmore. She was born in Frisco City, Ala. to the late Robert Freeman Cross and Frances Annie Webb Cross. She was a nurse at the original Foley Hospital and later retired from Monsanto as a draw twist operator.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph M. Carlee; a grandson, Brandon Edward Carlee; siblings, Freeman Preston Cross, Annie Ruth Stabler, Robert Earl Cross and Pearly Elizabeth Ray.

Mrs. Carlee is survived by her sons, Joseph Delray (Marsha) Carlee of Pooler, Ga., Robert David (Beverly) Carlee of Anniston, Ala., William Earl Carlee and Glenn Edward (Denise) Carlee, all of Atmore; one brother, Johnny Lee “Kit” Cross of Ga.; two sisters, Lettie Chancery of Flomaton, Ala. and Willie Jeanette Toler of Foley, Ala.; grandchildren, Trent, Jason, Cody, David, Jason, Kyle and Adam and numerous great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Adam Carlee and Bro. Waylon Stuckey officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Willie Thomas (Doug-W.T.) Johnson 

Mr. Willie Thomas (Doug-W.T.) Johnson, age 88, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, November 14, 2019. He was born to the late Frank Johnson and ae Nunn in Uriah (Monroe County) Ala. His education in Escambia county public school reached its limit at 8th grade. Through self-education he became a master carpenter and led the building of New Order Missionary Baptist Church. He served as Chairman, Deacon and represented New Order Church in song and praise. During leisure time he enjoyed fishing. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and then worked thirty years with Monsanto.

He was preceded in death by five siblings, Curtis (Helen) Johnson, Frank-R.J. (Helen) Johnson, Jr., Elvin Johnson, Jeff Johnson and Annie Ruth Johnson

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years, Annie Pearl Flowers Johnson; three sons, Jeronimo (Sandra) Johnson of Pike Road, Ala., Oshaske Johnson of Mobile, Ala and Anthony Brown-Hank who was his caretaker until his death; six grandchildren, Scharodd (Pam) Stallworth, Illya (Danny) Garland, Rodderick (Jen) Johnson, Analisha Banks, Jalen Johnson and Jazlyn Johnson; nine great-grandchildren, Dezhaun (child he raised) Beverly, Jaylin Stallworth, Calvin Johnson, Naomi Banks, Ciera Banks, Dailla Garland, Emmanual (CJ) Banks, Harmony Johnson and Yovela Johnson; three brothers and four sisters, Melvin (Patricia) Johnson, Freddie (Denise) Johnson, John (Brenda) Johnson, Elnetta Johnson Robert Thomas, Rosetta Johnson Finley Sims, Mary Johnson Mason Jackson, Carolyn Johnson English; sisters-in-law, Magalene Clark and Daisy Johnson.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 1 p.m. at New Order Missionary Baptist Church with Elder Sidney Grant, Pastor officiating. Interment followed in Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his grandsons and great-grandsons.

Flower bearers were family and friends.

Calvin Crenshaw

Mr. Calvin Crenshaw, age 63, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Atmore Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Empo0werment Christian Center. Burial will follow in Mt. Shiloh Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, November 29, 2019 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Christian Memorial Funeral Home.

Jennie Russell

Ms. Jennie Russell, age 80, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, November 23, 2019 at her home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 20, 2019 at 11 a.m. venue undetermined at this time. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
