Three people were hurt, one seriously, in an early Monday crash on U.S. 31.
The three-vehicle collision, at the junction of Highway 31 and Industrial Drive, sent all three drivers to Atmore Community Hospital. The most seriously injured driver was flown by medical evacuation helicopter to ACH, where he was reportedly treated for a severe gash to his head and is reportedly recovering.
Alabama State Trooper reports indicate only that the mishap was a chain reaction, with one vehicle plowing into the rear of another, and the third vehicle plowing into the rear of the second one.
The first vehicle, a 1999 GMC driven by Samuel Thomas Roberson of Perdido, was apparently waiting to turn onto Industrial Drive when a 2006 Lincoln pickup driven by Shannon Terrell Young of Atmore ran into the rear of the GMC.
The third vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet sedan driven by Jonathan Caleb Bryars of Bay Minette, then plowed into the rear of the Lincoln.
Traffic came to a standstill for about half an hour as ambulances joined Atmore Fire Department and Atmore Police Department units at the scene.
Two of the drivers were taken by ambulance to the local hospital, the third was flown there, and all three vehicles were towed from the wreck site.
