Three people escaped with only minor injuries after a two-vehicle collision Friday afternoon on South Main Street.
The wreck happened around 4:20 p.m. when a 2008 Nissan Altima driven by Sereida Ruiz, 20, of Atmore was hit by a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by 57-year-old Karen Morin of Brewton.
According to an Atmore Police Department accident report, Ruiz was headed north on South Main, and Morin was headed south. Witnesses told police that the Atmore woman reportedly was intent on making a left turn onto Craig Street and turned into the Brewton woman’s vehicle as it passed beneath the traffic light at the intersection.
Reports show that the Nissan rammed into the side of the Mercury at an angle, sending it rolling backward to the curb.
Both drivers, as well as a 54-year-old male passenger (name unavailable) in the Grand Marquis were taken by ambulance to Atmore Community Hospital with “incapacitating” injuries that were not considered life threatening.
