Muriel Erlean Philyaw
Mrs. Muriel Erlean Philyaw, age 61, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2019 in Atmore, Ala. She was a native of Atmore and had resided in the Canoe, Ala. and Wawbeek, Ala. area for most of her life. She was a former employee at Vanity Fair as a seamstress; she was a partner of Finley’s Gas Station and worked as a CNA at Atmore Nursing Care and caring for elderly.
She was preceded in death by her father, Olbren Wilson; mother, Jessie Swindle; husband, Lindsey Edward Philyaw; sister, Marie Booth and brother, Dudley Wilson.
Mrs. Philyaw is survived by one son, William L. Rigby, III of Daphne, Ala.; two daughters, Jennifer (Robert) Taylor of Forest, Miss. and Shirley (Brian) Adkison of Goodway, Ala.; two brothers, Edward “Buck” Wilson of Crestview, Fla. and Bennie (Cathy) Wilson of Milton, Fla.; one sister, Jeanette Quick of Century, Fla.; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Malcolm Harrelson officiating. Burial will follow at Canoe Free Will Baptist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 27, 2019 from 9 a.m. until service time at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Benjamin Jimenez, Michael Weaver, Kevin Jimenez, Henry Wiggins, Kenneth Morrow and Blake Frazier.

Ms. Victoria Skye DeSilvey, age 28, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2019
in Mobile, Ala. She was a homemaker. She was born in Atmore to Roy Houston and Tammy Caraway Smith.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Houston Smith; grandparents, Dorothy and James Caraway, Myrtle and Grover Smith; a step-father, Charles Larry Caraway.
Ms. DeSilvey is survived by her mother, Tammy (Scott Godwin) Smith of Little River, Ala.;.
one brother, Chad Houston Alverson; one sister, Tara DeSilvey, Three Half

Mr. Willie (Buster) McCall, age 74, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019 at his home.

Mary Avanelle Jordan Stark
Mrs. Mary Avanelle Jordan Stark, age 90, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday July 25, 2019 at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. She was born in Little Rock, Ark. to the late George Dewey and Erma Lee Kelly Jordan. She was a 1947 graduate of Little Rock Central High School. She was employed by South Central Bell Telephone for many years and retired from Touch-1 Long Distance Service in 1994. She was an active member of New Home United Pentecostal Church where she and her husband had pastored for twenty-five years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two+ years, Rev. Joseph F. Stark; son, Daniel Glenn Stark; two sisters, Virginia Fields of Little Rock and Marjorie Harrell of Ozark, Ark.; brother, Herbert Edward Jordan of Denver, Colo.
Mrs. Stark is survived by two sons, Joseph Frederick Stark Jr, (Roman) of Palm Springs, Calif. and Robert Neil Stark (Jo) of Gretna, La.: three grandchildren, Natalie Stark Oser (Gene) of Marrero, La., Robert Neil Stark, Jr. M.D. (Kim) of Rockwall, Texas and Jeffrey Paul Stark, P.E. (Wendy) of New Orleans, La.; five great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Stark, Ethan Stark and Aidan Stark of Rockwell and Justin and Brandon Oser of Marrero, La.

Catherine B. Middleton
Ms. Catherine B. Middleton, age 86, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, July 28, 2019 at her residence. She was a retired seamstress from Vanity Fair Mills. She was born in Monroe County, Ala. to the late John and Dolly McDonald Ball. She was a member of the Atmore Church of Christ.
Ms. Middleton was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Linda Criswell; a grandson,
Christopher Middleton; son-in-law, Tom Reynolds; sister, Ruth Turberville.
Ms. Middleton is survived by one son, Jerald Glenn Middleton, Jr. of Atmore; three daughters, Charlotte Reynolds and Debbie (David) Miles, all of Pensacola, Fla. and Donna (Jack) Madison of Birmingham, Ala.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Curtis Lee “PAP” Jones, age 77, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Friday, July 26, 2019
at his residence. He was a native of Meridian, Miss. He attended Douglasville High School in Bay Minette, Ala. He lived in Detroit, Mich. for many years and worked with Rosati Masonary Co. He has lived in Atmore for ten years. He enjoyed watching wrestling, walking, going to the gym, and building things. He was a member of New Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Atmore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike Jones, Sr. and Mary Ellen Jones; a daughter, Tina Jones; a son, Richard “Lil Pap” McDonald; two sisters, Louvernie Finley and Lucy Mae Finley; three brothers, Henry Lee Jones, Lonnie Jones, and Charles “Sugar Toe” Jones.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Odessa Lee-Jones of Atmore; two daughters, Kendra Jones of Atmore and Nicole Jones of Detroit; five step-daughters, Gloria (Johnny) Jones, Bertha Knott, Delois (Steve) Johnson, Kathy (Lewis) English, all of Atmore and Angela Martin of Lansing, Mich.; five sons, Douglas Wright of Inkster, Mich., Curtis Wright of Grand Rapids, Mich., Edward Wright of Mobile, Ala., Donald Montgomery of Atmore, and Darrell Jones of Detroit; four step-sons, Layton (Michelle) Frye, Jimmy Lee, Jr., and Michael Dennis, all of Atmore and Jonathan Frye of Detroit; six sisters, Cynthia Vaughn, Ethelene Jones, Corine English, all of Detroit, Betty Jo Vaughn of Ferndale, Mich., Margie Ball and Estelle Mason Boggan, both of Atmore; four brothers, Mike Jones, Jr. and Johnny Ray Jones, both of Detroit, David Lee Jones of Ferndale and James “Candyman” Douglas of Atmore; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of his life service will be held Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 11 a.m. at a church to be determined with Rev. Harold Askew officiating. Interment will be in Stallworth Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, August 2, 2019 from 2 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rufus McCullam
Mr. Rufus McCullam, age 87, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2019. He was born in Hattiesburg, Miss. to the late John and Elnora Washington. He was a faithful member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church until his health declined. He enjoyed fishing, farming and hunting. He retired from Monsanto of Pensacola, Fla. after thirty-eight years of service as a C P Chemical Operator.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lois Roberts; brothers, Albert McCullam and Ransom McCullam; granddaughters, Latoria Daniel and Tynekia McCullam and son-in-law, Norman Hubert.
Mr. McCullam is survived by his wife, Virgie Mary McCullam of Atmore; children, Theresa Sanderson of Mobile, Ala., Cynthia McCullam of Huntsville, Ala., Bernard McCullam of Atmore, Terry ( David Quaker, Sr.), Wanda Hubert and Darron McCullam, all of Atmore; Perry McCullam of Birmingham, Ala., Valerie McCullam of Tampa, Fla.; sisters and brothers in law, Earnest (Elizabeth) Abner of Dade City, Fla., Gloria ( Leroy) Jeter of Spartanburg, S.C., Joyce Minus of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., Roberta Perryman of Mobile and the late Luvenia Wiggins of Raleigh, N.C.; devoted friends, Hoover Brown and Bobby Riley; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
