An early morning crash that occurred Saturday, March 30, in Baldwin County claimed the lives of an Atmore man and a Century, Fla. man who are reportedly brothers and left three others, including two children, hospitalized.
According to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reports, state troopers were sent shortly after 8 a.m. to the scene of a two-vehicle crash on Baldwin Co. 87, near Cowpen Creek Road in the Elsanor community.
Troopers reported that Steve A. Leonard, 57, of Atmore was driving south on County Road 87 when his 2009 Dodge Ram collided head-on with a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado.
Leonard was taken to University Hospital in Mobile where he succumbed to his injuries. A passenger in his vehicle, 54-year-old Michael Wayne Leonard of Century, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neither man was using a seat belt, troopers said.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Blaine Gregg, 37, of Elberta, was injured and taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Florida. Two children (one from each vehicle) were also taken to Sacred Heart, where they were treated for what troopers described as non-life-threatening injuries.
Funeral services for the two brothers had not been announced by Tuesday’s press deadline, and further details were unavailable as troopers continued their investigation into the fatal crash.
