Apparently impaired pedestrian could be charged

Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks reported Monday, December 3, that a pedestrian, who was apparently under the influence of some intoxicant when he was struck Saturday by a vehicle, could face criminal charges in connection with the incident.

According to a press release issued Monday by the police chief, patrol officers were dispatched around 8:27 p.m. to the pedestrian-vs.-motor vehicle crash, which occurred at the intersection of Ridgeley and Main streets.

Upon arrival police determined that 35-year-old Brandon Oneal Tedder of Atmore had been hit by an undisclosed vehicle as he tried to cross the street. Witnesses reportedly told police that Tedder did not try to cross the street until the light turned green for waiting traffic and stepped in front of the vehicle as it continued through the intersection.

The preliminary investigation led police to believe that Tedder “was under the influence when he was struck by the vehicle.” Criminal charges are pending the outcome of the investigation, Brooks said.

The injured man was taken to Atmore Community Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
