If school spirit could have won the game, Northview High School would have another victory under its belt. “Beat the Hurricanes” signs were around every hallway corner, and a garnet and gold decorated student body started showcasing itself as early as Monday morning, but obviously it takes more than that to end up as the scoreboard winners.
Even with the home-field advantage, the NHS Chiefs could not make it stick, and ended up losing to the Flomaton High School Hurricanes 41 to 20.
The only time the Chiefs had the lead was during the first quarter when junior Aunterio Minor was able to plow through a massive pile-up and run almost 55 yards into the end zone. Seth Killam’s kick was good. Chiefs up by 7, but the Hurricanes answered with a quick Daquan Johnson touchdown. Their extra kick was no good. Chiefs were in the lead by one.
During the second quarter, Daquan Johnson continued his streak, scoring 4 more touchdowns for the Hurricanes. All of the extra points were good; however, Chiefs quarterback Seth Killam shot a perfect pass to Junior Adam Aliff, for another 6 points. Score: Flomaton 34, Northview 13.
Third quarter had little action as far as moving the ball. There were no scores from either team. Fourth quarter had the final scores for the night, when Killam again pelted a pass to Trent Kite for another 6 points on the scoreboard. Killam’s extra point was good. That was Northview’s final score, but the Hurricanes added another 7 on the board as well. Final score: Hurricanes 41, Chiefs, 20.
“There were many successful passes and several yards of rushing,” NHS sophomore Keeshawn Breedlove said. “We just missed a lot of plays that we certainly know how to do, like tackling and reading the plays better. Trust me. We will adjust.”
Hopefully this will be the case for this coming Friday night as the Chiefs gear up for a showdown with South Walton at the Chiefs’ Stadium. Showtime is at 7. Wear your garnet and gold and join the student section to show your Chiefs support.
