Elvis visits the Y

Elvis sings to Kathy Slay

Elvis Presley visited the Atmore Area YMCA Tuesday, September 26.

Elvis is Danny Rand from Grand Bay, Ala. Ilene Niedergreses was the other celebrity.

The entertainment was provided by Humana as part of Senior Appreciation Day. Priority seating was reserved for members of Silver Sneakers and YMCA senior members. The show was free for everyone.

“We certainly appreciate the folks from Humana – Owen Shropshire, Susanne Bonasera and Kim Willis – for thinking of our YMCA and coordinating Elvis for our seniors to enjoy,” said Paul Chason, YMCA CEO.

Tracy Martin warmed the crowd as the opening act for Elvis with songs from Jeanne Riley, Tammy Wynette, and Loretta Lynn, to name a few. The crowd was singing along with each tune.

Elvis created oohs and aahs as he entered the room and began walking through the crowd. Elvis sang to everyone as he sat beside them or had them stand with him as he sang many of their favorite songs. Some ladies swooned over the attention, and had to catch their breath.

“It was a fantastic show and we look forward to doing it again next year,” Chason said.
