Arbor Day planting

More than 300 Rachel Patterson Elementary School students and the school’s faculty and staff joined five Atmore Garden Club members, Mayor Jim Staff and Escambia County Forester Thomas Davis on a windy Monday (March 6) for the Arbor Day planting of a Sugar Maple on the RPES campus. The mayor spoke briefly, and Davis provided a history of Arbor Day before the mayor and city horticulturist Ed Brown shoveled dirt around the base of the tree. Shown are, from left, RPES students Taraji Staples, Evan Parker, Neleh Gholsby, Aurora Creel, Jordan Johnson, Jadarian Bowens, Jayden Coleman, and Gabriel Rivera; back, Joan Hackman, Mary Ann McCabe, Becky McDonald, Penny Walker, Juanita Smith, Mayor Staff and Forester Davis.
