Bat-wielding man shot by victim

Charges are pending against an Atmore man who allegedly used a baseball bat in an attack on a man who was with the suspect’s estranged wife.

The incident occurred last Wednesday (February 8) at Rollins Used Cars on West Nashville Avenue and resulted in the alleged assailant (43-year-old Ethan Allen) being shot once by the man he reportedly assaulted.

According to Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks, Allen and his wife are in the process of obtaining a divorce. The man who was attacked by Allen had recently been dating the woman, who left her vehicle at the car lot while she and he went to see a movie in Malbis.

When they returned to the site in order for the woman to pick up her car, Allen was reportedly waiting for them. Reports show he approached the couple, brandishing the baseball bat. He reportedly began swinging it, striking one of the two at least once.

The other man grabbed his gun and shot Allen once, hitting him “in the lower extremities,” inflicting a “non-life threatening injury,” Brooks said.

Reports show that Allen was taken by ambulance to North Baldwin Infirmary in Bay Minette, where he was treated and eventually released.

“Charges are pending the outcome of our investigation,” the police chief said.
