A teen who escaped Friday morning from a juvenile detention facility in Gadsden was recaptured Friday afternoon near Huxford.
According to a press release from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, county authorities were notified of the escape around 9 a.m., Friday, December 16, by officials of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office who had received information that the juvenile might be in the Huxford community.
Deputies responded to the area, along with an Alabama Department of Corrections K-9 tracking team. ECSO Capt. Greg Forbes spotted the teen on Prestwood Bridge Road but the young escapee ran. The K-9 tracking team was deployed, and the juvenile was apprehended a short while later without incident.
Authorities believe that the escapee was aided by his girlfriend, who was located inside a vehicle in the search area. The unidentified girlfriend was also taken into custody, and both teens were turned over to Monroe County deputies.
