The Youth Leadership Atmore class is a close-knit group. During the year, participating in various activities, they’ve bonded. But on Thursday, December 8, YLA went beyond themselves and participated in a Day of Service.

The first stop was Walmart to shop for toys to donate to the LA Bikers Toyz for Kidz ride.

Next stop – the Lavan Martin Assisted Living Facility in Poarch where they delivered Christmas cards and visited with residents.

Later in the morning, the class delivered the recently purchased toys to PeeWee Construction Company warehouse. PeeWee and Annie Powell, with daughter

Jody Jeter, head the LA Bikers Toyz for Kidz drive every year.

After lunch at David’s Catfish, the group wrapped up their day at Atmore Nursing Center where they delivered Christmas cards and did activities with residents.

YLA director Lesley Harrison said the students enjoyed spending time with the residents at the Lavan Martin Assisted Living Facility and Atmore Nursing Center.

“Several students stated that they gained a new perspective on life from each person they visited with,” Harrison said.
