Last year’s successful Perdido School PTO fundraiser generated more than $16,000 for a new athletics facility, and members of the parent-teacher group are anticipating a repeat of that success this year.
The initial response indicates that the second annual Pull for Perdido Benefit Clay Shoot, which will take place Saturday, March 3, at Bushy Creek Clays, will easily match or even exceed last year’s numbers.
Businesses and individuals have already paid or pledged more than $9,000 in sponsorships, and more than two dozen four-person teams have already paid their $500 entry fee. Several donations have also been received or promised for the day’s raffles and door prizes.
“Another overwhelming response,” said Perdido School Registrar Teresa Booker. “Our school is truly blessed with the support we receive from our local community and businesses from all around. Our support comes from businesses inside the Atmore, Bay Minette, Spanish Fort and Mobile areas. Our supporters are linked to our parents or faculty in one way or another and are very loyal in supporting our school. We are truly blessed.”
The net proceeds from the clay shoot will be used to update the electronic teaching aids used throughout the school.
“This year’s event has been earmarked for interactive technology for our classrooms,” Booker said. “We would like to update some of our older equipment, such as Smart Boards and classroom electronics, so our teachers and students have the latest and most current resources for the best possible learning experience within the classroom.”
Registration for the shoot will begin at 8 a.m. (all teams must have pre-registered before the day of the event), with a safety meeting for all shooters at 9 a.m. and — appropriately — a shotgun start at 9:30. Lunch will be served when all shooters have completed the course, which features 14 stations.
Participants may bring golf carts or utility vehicles with side-by-side seating, but no vehicles are allowed that require a rider to straddle the seat. Some carts are available at Bushy Creek Clays (located on Will Vaughn Road), but they must be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.
Shells are not provided, and each shooter — who must wear ear and eye protection — should bring a minimum of 110 shells. Mulligans are available at $20 for four, and 10 warm-up targets may be purchased for $10.
