Dorothy Jean Kennedy
Mrs. Dorothy Jean Kennedy, age 74, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2025, in Mobile, Ala. Originally from Stockton, Ala., she lived in Bratt, Fla. and Pennsylvania before moving to Atmore, Ala. in 1994. She was a devoted member of Halls Fork Assembly of God Church, where she enjoyed being part of her community. Her life touched many, and she will be remembered fondly by those who knew her.
She loved spending time in her garden. Her grandchildren brought her joy, often joining her as she crocheted cozy gifts for them. Always a giver, she poured her heart into sewing beautiful clothes and crafting special items, showcasing her talent as an amazing seamstress. She cherished her dogs, taking them along on adventures to Red Hill, her favorite spot. Traveling to new places excited her, and she found happiness in the simple pleasure of dipping her feet into cool creek water, feeling the gentle flow wash over her toes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommy (Julia Estelle Day) Stewart; brother, James Stewart; special sister, Frances Harrelson.
Mrs. Kennedy is survived by her loving husband of fifty-five years, James Kennedy of Atmore; daughters, Janice (Jason) Parham of Atmore, Shannon (Shaw) Evans of Canoe, Alabama and Tracie Kennedy of McDavid, Fla.; sisters, Marilyn Sanders of Pensacola, Fla., Judy (Thomas) Jensen of Pace, Fla. and Julia (Brad) Layman of Killen, Ala.; six grandchildren, Chelsea (Justin) Huggins, Kade Parham, Jordan Huggins and Rickie-Lynn Rose Huggins; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 1 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC with Bro. Joe Eddie Macks officiating. Burial will follow at Christian Home Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 7, 2025 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC.
Pallbearers will be Jason Parham, Shaw Evans, Kade Parham, Eli Evans, Max Odom and Matthew Brook.

Emily Montez McMillan
Mrs. Emily Montez McMillan, age 75, passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, March 6, 2025. A lifelong resident of southern Monroe and Baldwin County, she was known for her warm spirit and strong community ties. Emily was a devoted member of Little River Baptist Church and also attended Little River Holiness Church. She worked at Vanity Fair and enjoyed sewing, but nothing brought her more joy than being surrounded by her loved ones.
She had a big heart and loved taking care of children. When she wasn’t caring for little ones, she was busy in her yard, cutting grass, burning leaves or tending to her beautiful flowers. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment with them. She loved to fish, cheered for Alabama football, and sang along to Elvis Presley songs. Talking on the phone with friends and family filled her days with warmth. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis (Minnie Lee Brooks) Williams; husband, Charles Mabyn McMillan; one daughter, Glenda Stewart Fondren; five brothers, Charles Williams, Albert Williams, Gene Williams, Leroy Williams, John David Williams; two sisters, Bobbie Ann Crowley and Judy Dianna Williams.
Mrs. McMillan is survived by her son, Jack (Ann) McMillan of Little River; daughter, Linda (Brian) Till of Molino, Fla.; three brothers, Buddy (Rosie) Williams of Franklin, Ala., Willis (Alice) Williams of Mexia, Ala; Don (Vicky) Williams of McCullough, Ala; two sisters, Orbaneze Day of Poarch, Ala.; Louise Gibson of Claiborne, Ala.; sisters-in-law, Annie Ruth Emmons of Little River and Sue Williams of Goodway, Ala,; grandchildren, Greg (Morgan) Taylor, Trista (Samantha) Smith, Jack (Charity) McMillan Jr., Megan (Ian) Chaves, Harmoni Till, Evan Till, Annabell Stewart and Elizabeth Stewart; great-grandchildren, Eli Taylor, Toby Taylor, Madelyn Taylor, Ophelia Smith, Aurora Smith, Noah Robertson-McMillan, Wesley Thomas and Grant Hicks.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 10, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Little River Baptist Church with Reverend Wayne McMillan officiating. Burial will follow at Phillips Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 9, 2025 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Petty Funeral Homes, LLC.
Pallbearers will be Greg Taylor, Jack McMillan Jr., Evan Till, Ian Chaves, Keith Selzer and Donnie Whatley.

Gladys I. (Wert) Yoder

Mrs. Gladys Irene (Wert) Yoder, age 93, was born, in McAlisterville, Pa. to Michael and Alma (Lauver) Wert. She passed away peacefully at her home in Dover, De. Friday, February 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
After graduating from Lancaster Mennonite High School in 1950, she married the love of her life, Jesse J. Yoder on Dec. 25, 1951, who indeed was her “Sweetie,” supporting him faithfully with her loyalty and enduring love, through years of ministry at Central Mennonite Church.
Many good memories and family times were made living in Greenwood, DE, close to her sister Alene and Jesse’s brother Mark, before they moved to Dover in 1971.The gifts of a caring heart, a listening ear, and sometimes blunt but witty responses, brought laughter and goodwill to her immediate and extended family. Phone conversations with her sisters and people she cared about, gave her many opportunities to bless and encourage others.
She served as a teacher for twenty-four years at Central Christian School. Her patient love for students and concern for excellence, endued many of them with deep appreciation for her influence on their lives. Many quilts crafted by her for the annual School Festival and auction, were hotly contested items among grandchildren and interested friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Harold (Mary) Wert; her two sister, Orpha (Lloyd) Gingrich and Alene (Mark) Yoder; her brothers-in-law, Vernon Zehr and Allan Shirk; her sons, Robert and Joseph
The family wishes to thank God for His faithfulness, her church family, and her many friends, daughter-in-law Dawn, and two great-grandsons, Bennett and Mitchell.
Mrs. Yoder is survived by her husband, Jesse; their two daughters, Shirley and Maynard Miller, Naomi and Robert Miller, and three sons, David and Ellie, Paul and Erma, Jonathan and Heleen; twenty-three grandchildren; eighty-one great-grandchildren; three sisters, Freda Zehr, Alma Jean (Harvey) Yoder, Ruth Ann Shirk; a brother, Lloyd (Bev) Wert.
The family received friend Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. and also one hour prior to the 11a.m. Sunday service.
A Celebration of Life service was held at Central Mennonite Church Sunday, March 9, 2025, at 11 a.m. with the burial following at the church cemetery and a meal followed.

Mrs. Angela Maria Thompson, age 60, passed away Monday, March 10, 2025 in Pensacola, Fla. She was a lifelong resident of Bratt, Fla. where she touched the lives of many with her kindness.

Imagine a sunny day outdoors, rods in hand, waiting for a tug on the line or tracking through the woods with loved ones. After a fun-filled day, you might settle down together to enjoy classic shows like Hogan’s Heroes or Gunsmoke, laughing at the clever antics or thrilling shootouts. For some creativity, painting by numbers on a tablet can be a relaxing way to unwind as everyone shares their colorful masterpieces. These simple moments create lasting memories and bring everyone closer together.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte Klause Levins.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her father, Arthur Carolton Levins of Bratt; two sons, Lester Fox of Bratt and Chris (Megan) Thompson of Flomaton, Ala.; one daughter, Maria (Terry) Fox of Bratt; one brother, Arthur Jesse (Darlene) Levins of Bratt; one sister, Anita Levins of Bratt; six grandchildren, Carolton Levins, Christopher Thompson, Jr., Jonathan Stanley, Eli Thompson, Jacob Stanley, Halana Thompson; numerous aunts, uncles, and friends.
