Atmore police announced last week the recent arrests of a 21-year-old Atmore man and a juvenile, each charged in connection with the November 29 firing of several shots into a vehicle as it idled at a city intersection.
Brayvuan York remained in the Escambia County Detention Center this week. He is being held without bond on three counts of attempted murder and one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle.
According to records on file with Clerk of Court John R. Fountain’s office, District Court Judge Eric Coale initially granted York a $250,000 bond. The bond was revoked after it was brought out at a hearing that when the shooting occurred, York was already free on bond from a previous arrest on four counts of felony assault.
The November incident occurred around 3:45 in the afternoon when emergency dispatchers relayed reports of “several shots” being fired into a vehicle that had stopped at the intersection of Brown Street and Carver Avenue.
Witnesses told police the shooters fired three times into the vehicle, then ran from the scene. No serious injuries were reported.
Atmore Police Department Sgt. Darrell McMann said York’s 15-year-old companion, who was identified by a witness, is also a suspect in “a number of other incidents.” The teen was taken into custody and has reportedly been turned over to juvenile authorities.
APD investigators were eventually able to identify York as the second suspect, and warrants were obtained for his arrest. McMann said York surrendered to police without further incident at a residence on Rockaway Creek Road.
