Myrle Dorothy Hanks

Mrs. (Myrle Dorothy Hanks (Granny), age 86, passed away Monday, February 10, 2025 in Pensacola, Fla. Originally from Uriah, Ala.,  she spent most of her life in Bratt, Fla. A devoted member of Bratt First Baptist Church, she lived her life rooted in faith and kindness.
A NASCAR fan through and through, she followed the sport with passion. Her faith was constantly renewed through Gospel music. Her love for singing in the church choir allowed her to share her faith and the uplifting tunes of Bill and Gloria Gaither were among her favorites. She also had a gift for cooking.
Family was the absolute center of her world. She was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She had a unique gift for making people feel special. Always quick with a smile and a laugh, she was a woman of great warmth and empathy. Her hugs were legendary—comforting and full of love. Above all else, she loved everyone she met without judgment, always offering kindness, acceptance, and encouragement.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clinton and Zelma Harrison Harris; husband, Howard Hanks; two brothers, Charles Harris and Clint Harris
Mrs. Hanks is survived by a son, Mark (Delyn) Hanks of Pace, Fla; two daughters, Donna (Wayne) Gunn of Bratt and Pam (Mike) Mullen of Pensacola; four grandchildren, Ryan Hanks, Haley Hendry, Taylor Riley and Kaitlyn Strehl; six great-grandchildren, Aryan, Harper, Ruby, Conner, Jase, and Cooper.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Bratt First Baptist Church with Reverend Tim Hawsey officiating. A committal service will be held February 20, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery. A procession will be held from Olive Baptist Church (Warrington Campus) 103 Winthrop Avenue, Pensacola, Florida 32507.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Hanks, Chaz Riley, Austin Strehl, Sean Hendry, Rick Anderson, Steve Hanks and Rick Amerson.

Emma Ruth Mothershed

Mrs. Emma Ruth Mothershed, age 83, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2025 in Mobile, Ala. A native of Atmore, she spent most of her life in the Huxford, Ala. and Atmore, Ala. areas. She was a dedicated member of Enon Baptist Church.
She found joy in sewing and cooking, often making delicious meals. In her free time, she enjoyed watching westerns and cheering on her favorite Auburn football team. Bull riding was another passion of hers. Her green thumb helped with the beauty of gardening and planting colorful flowers in her yard. She was selfless, always putting others first and taking care of those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Lemuel (Ethel Dee Hodges) Chunn; husband, Carl H Mothershed; son, Waylin Daryl Mothershed; two brothers, James Chunn and Don Chunn; sister, Luvern Smith.
Mrs. Mothershed is survived by her daughter, Tina (James) House of Huxford; sister, Wilma Johnson of Bainbridge, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Matt Mothershed, Justin Mothershed, Katie Stabler, Breann Barnett, Kaja Rosen, Trevor Lowry, CJ House and Megan Turberville; seven great-grandchildren, Noah, Braylee, Brynn, Evan, Troy, Kylie, and Noraleigh.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC. with Reverend Don Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Mothershed Cemetery.

Patricia Powell Freeman

Freeman

Mrs. Patricia Powell Freeman, age 77, of Atmore, Ala. passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025. She was born in Bratt, Fla. to Johnnie and Mary Gay Powell. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was an avid Alabama fan, loved fishing and enjoyed gardening and doing yardwork. She took pride in her yard and flowers and hated potato vines. She was a perfectionist!

During her employment life, she held many titles. She was employed at Elmore’s 5 & Dime, Bonner Printing, Dr. St. Amant’s office, a Manager of Movie Gallery, a Bookkeeper with Freeman Builders Construction Company, a Lab Tech with Greenlawn Hospital, and a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant.

She loved her grands and great-grands with her whole heart.  She followed the grandkids to ALL of their sporting events, can’t ever remember her missing an event.

Patricia was the “Boss” of the family and The “Backbone” of the family.  She was the everyone “s “go-to” person: family lawyer, family doctor, and family counselor before her health declined.

Patricia is preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie Powell and Mary Gay Powell; her brother, Wayne Powell; her grandson, Stephen Breyden Freeman; great-niece, Anna Grace Stanley and her brothers-in-law, Shorty Tyree and Damon Bell.

Mrs. Freeman is survived by her husband of almost sixty years, Bobby Freeman; her son, Steve Freeman of Atmore and her daughter, Kathy (Hub) Wilson of Bratt, Fla.; her grandchildren, Trent (Jessica) Freeman, Alex (Harrison) McDonald, Brannon (Grayson) Freeman, Aaron (Lacey) McDonald, Chasen (Hannah) Freeman and Tyler (Marissa) Wilson; her great-grandchildren, Leighton Freeman, Parker Freeman, Sawyer Freeman, Knox Freeman, Miles Freeman and one on the way; her sisters and brother, Mary Alice Turner of Saraland, Ala., Glenda Bell, Linda (Tony) Wooten, Billy Powel and Rita Powell, all of Atmore; special best friends, Dr. Frances D. Salter and Diane Jerkins; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 16, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry Beauchamp and Bro. Michael Roley officiating.  Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore, Ala.

Active pallbearers will be Trent Freeman, Brannon Freeman, Aaron McDonald, Tyler Wilson, Chasen Freeman and Harrison Kase.

The family will receive friends Sunday, February 16, 2025 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Nicholas Isiah Walston

Mr. Nicholas Isiah Walston, age 17, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at his home in Byrneville, Fla. He was a native and lifelong resident of the area, known for his cheerful spirit. He was a student at Northview High School, where he was a member of ROTC, played football and shared memorable moments. He attended Holy Ground Church in Flomaton, Ala. where he was an active member of the community. He loved hunting and fishing. Wrestling was one of his favorite shows, never missing a match. His passion for trucks and fast cars made him a proud collector. He enjoyed capturing the beauty of the sky through his camera and cherished fun moments spent with family. Whether it was taking walks outside with his brother or cheering at hockey games, he found happiness in these experiences. Most of all, he adored his nieces and nephews, making every moment spent with them special and filled with laughter.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jacob Walston Jr.; grandparents, Gene Day Boatwright, Pearl Sellers, Diane Boatwright.
Mr. Walston is survived by his mother, Christine Jenkins of Byrneville, Fla.; step-dad, Steve Emmons of Byrneville,; sisters, Emily Walston and Chris Hammond and Brittany Walston, all of Byrneville; brother, Nate Emmons of Byrneville; grandparents, Joyce Jenkins aka “Nana” of Franklinton, La., Steve Emmons, Sr., and Billy Boatwright, both of Flomaton, Ala.; nephews, Jacob Walston and Jaxton Simpson; nieces, Emmy Lou Tamondong and Brooklynn Tamondong; numerous other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 21, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC. with Reverend Wesley Carey and Christopher Chambers officiating. Burial will follow at Beulah Chapel Cemetery.

Marlene (Marni) Elaine Rosno       

Mrs. Marlene (Marni) Elaine Rosno (Nee Phillips), affectionately known as “Muttie”, (age 78) of San Diego, California passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025 peacefully in her sleep. She was born to Leon Dewey and Mary Marjorie Phillips.

Affectionately known as “Muttie”, she always brought a high level of positivity and wisdom to the table finding the good in everything and everyone. Besides her comforting presence, she had many talents. No one could throw an impromptu party as fast or as much fun. She loved telling jokes, great food, being around family, and happiness followed her around like a new puppy.

Mrs. Rosno is survived by two daughters, Cherie Pape of San Diego and Lisa (Steve) Reynolds of Atmore, Ala.; her sister, Jan Phillips; her brother, James Phillips; sister-in-law, Paula.

Memorial Services will be held in her honor Saturday, March 8, 2025 in San Diego.
