Help needed with Tax Counseling for the Elderly program

Special to Atmore News

Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is seeking help with its free tax prep program called Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE). An informational meeting for potential volunteers will take place from 12:30-2 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, at the Flomaton Public Library, 436 Dr. Van Avenue.
Last year the organization of retired senior professionals completed taxes for residents of Atmore, Flomaton and the Poarch Band of Creek Indians reservation. The volunteers serve where they are able to, one or two times a week, and most sites are open 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
South Alabama RSVP Project Manager Kimberly Tate said in an email that individuals are needed to serve as greeters, appointment schedulers, IT techs and tax preparers. A small stipend is available for some of the positions.
Tate cautioned potential volunteers that most, but not all, the positions require computer literacy.
RSVP is a program of Area Agency on Aging and an AmeriCorps Senior grantee. For more information on the TCE program, those interested may call 251-236-3881 or send an email to ktate@sarpc.org.
