The City of Atmore recently launched its new community newsletter, an online publication designed to keep residents “informed and engaged” with local news, events and updates from city officials, who have high hopes of its success.
The first edition of “What’s Happening in Atmore” was published June 28 and focused on the city’s new residential garbage agreement with Waste Pro, including what residents can expect from the new solid waste collection agreement.
It will be a monthly publication featuring various content, including a message from the mayor and information on upcoming events, city projects, public safety updates and community spotlights.
Cassandra McAboy, Senior Account Executive for Direct Communications, which is the publication’s composer and publisher, said the initiative is part of the city’s “ongoing commitment to enhancing communication between government and the public, and to fostering a sense of community.”
City economic planner Chris Walker said the city “provides the information for the newsletter, but they (Direct Communications) actually put it all together.”
Mayor Jim Staff expressed enthusiasm over the newsletter, which could turn out to be a valuable tool in the city’s attempt to stay in touch with a growing population.
“We’re always looking for ways to keep our community informed and connected,” Staff said in a press release issued by Direct Communications. “We aim to ensure every resident feels engaged and aware of what’s happening in our beautiful city.”
Residents of Atmore, as well as those outside the city who are interested, can subscribe to the newsletter, which is also available on the city’s website, welcometoatmore.com. For more information on goings-on in the city, visit the website or send Walker an email at cwalker@cityofatmore.com.
