The Fort Mims Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution held its March meeting at the Stockton Presbyterian Church on March 21.
Chapter Regent Sharon Murphy presented Nancy Karrick with two certificates which were presented at the state conference in Auburn the first week of March. The one Murphy is holding is from the American Heritage Committee signifying that Nancy Karrick was the Alabama State Winner in the Cross Stitch division. Her entry will go on to the national competition. The second certificate is for Dedication to Preserving Our History, and was given in recognition of Karrick’s historical research and publicity while the renovation and restoration of the Strand Theatre was ongoing.
Coincidentally, the same day, Karrick received another certificate in the mail for her participation in the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party. The inscription reads in part, “This certifies that tea generously donated by Nancy Karrick was thrown into Boston Harbor as part of the 250th Anniversary and Reenactment of the Boston Tea Party on December 16, 2023.” All DAR members across the United States were asked to send loose tea which could be used in the reenactment. Accompanying the certificate was a picture of the actual reenactment, showing crates of loose tea floating in the river.
