Special to Atmore News
The University of South Alabama Regional Autism Network (USARAN) and Healthy Minds Consulting LLC are offering free in-person training sessions for families and professionals about education and behavior management.
The workshops will be offered in Atmore at the Poarch Creek Community Center on Thursday, Jan. 11. The 8:30 a.m. session will address laws regarding free and appropriate education for individuals with autism. The second session at 10:15 a.m. will discuss strategies for behavior management in the home and the community.
Michelle McDaniel, director of USARAN, said the training is important because of the increasing need for autism-related training and resources for both families and professionals in the rural communities of our state.
“This workshop was developed by the Alabama Regional Autism Network in collaboration with Healthy Minds Consulting, in response to requests from community members across Escambia County for training related to helping families of children with autism navigate the special education system, as well as practical strategies for addressing behavioral concerns at home and in the community,” McDaniel said.
Sessions are free, but registration is required. To register, email Jackie Christian at jlchristian@health.southalabama.edu.
