Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff Heath Jackson announced that, beginning this week, new security protocols will be in effect at the county courthouse in Brewton.
As of 8 a.m. Monday, April 3, all visitors to the courthouse are required to go through a security screening at the front doors, and “any and all persons, purses and bags will be searched and scanned for prohibited items.”
Prohibited items include guns, knives, bats, nunchaku (nunchucks), brass knuckles, ammunition, swords, lighters, pepper spray or “any other item that would be deemed dangerous.”
Jackson asked for patience and punctuality from those entering the facility.
“Please be patient with security as they try to make this new experience fast and easy,” he said. “We are sorry for any inconvenience, but your safety while visiting an Escambia County facility is our top priority.
“Please plan accordingly and if you have court, arrive early. The sheriff’s office does not issue tardy notes and can’t excuse you from being late.”
