Wedding bells
Dan and Rhecy Currie of Atmore recently announced the engagement of their son, Trey Currie, to Anissa Watson, daughter of Matt and Yolanda Watson, also of Atmore. Reports are that Trey proposed (and Anissa accepted) December 30, during a trip to Gatlinburg, Tenn.
New single
Local country music recording artist and songwriter Ricky Crook is still going strong. According to his Facebook page, Ricky’s new song, “Honky Tonk Stomp,” is now available at all online music stores and streaming platforms. Ricky, sometimes solo and sometimes with a band, is an area favorite and is booked to play several venues around Atmore in the coming weeks.

Congratulations to Poarch Band of Creek Indians Landscaper Burl “Hollywood” Wiggins, who was named the Tribe’s 2022 Employee of the Year.
Youth Tour
Escambia County High School students DaaGaryn McCracken and Na Asia Reynolds were chosen by the school’s faculty members, based on academic and extracurricular achievements, to represent ECHS at the Southern Pine Youth Tour in Montgomery. Past groups have visited various Civil Rights monuments and have toured the state capitol, where they were able to spend time with legislators.
New officers
Atmore Police Department recently welcomed three new officers, each of whom graduated in December from the Alabama Criminal Justice Training Center in Selma. Officially joining the local police force are Justin Thompson, John Reaves and Joselyn Hill.
Softball scholarship
Northview High School’s Emma Gilmore, who had the highest batting average and was named Most Valuable Player for the Lady Chiefs softball team this year, has accepted a scholarship offer to play for Bishop State Community College in Mobile.
