Atmore police arrested a Georgia man on a felony drug possession charge after officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a local motel to find the man in a state of drug-induced confusion.
Police reports show that the incident occurred January 4, around 3:50 a.m., at Southland Motel on U.S. 31 (East Nashville Avenue).
When APD units arrived on the scene, they encountered Jason Sanders, 49, of Stockbridge, Ga., who was sitting in his vehicle with the driver’s side door open.
Sanders told officers that “unknown people” were holding him against his will inside his motel room. This led city lawmen to suspect Sanders was under the influence of some type of narcotic and they gained consent to search his room.
The search turned up a broken clear-glass pipe that contained a white, crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Police also found a pen casing that contained a substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Sanders was processed into the Escambia County Detention Center on one count each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He has since been released on bond.
