Eloise Peacock
Mrs. Eloise Peacock, age 84, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Monday, May 20, 2022, at her home. She was born in Flomaton, Ala. and resided most of her life in Atmore. She retired from Vanity Fair Mills with many years of employment. She was a member of Martinville Baptist Church. She loved going to church, listening to gospel music and going fishing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Annie Lee Stokes Nelson; one son, Richard Leon McGhee, Jr.; one daughter, Pat Wiggins; two sisters, Dorothy Martin and Helen Ann Nelson; one brother, Howard Nelson.
Mrs. Peacock is survived by her loving husband of twenty-four years, Harold Peacock of Atmore; four daughters, Rhonda Kay (Melton) Kendrick of Atmore, Shelley Peacock, of Columbus, Miss., Linda Sue Wiggins of Century, Fla. and Brenda Peacock of Perdido, Ala.; two sons, Raymond (Laure) Simmons of Atmore and Bo Simmons of Milton, Fla.; one sister, Joy Nelson (Peter) Smith, of Perdido, Ala.; one niece, Eia Leasha Martin, seven grandchildren, Melissa Kay Kendrick, Stephanie Kendrick and Angela McGhee, all of Atmore, Latisha Ann Smith, of Perdido, Ala., Tiffaney McGhee Jones and Anna Evanoff, all of Pensacola, Fla. and Christina McCire of Jacksonville, Fla.; numerous great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral service will be held Friday, May 27, 2022 at 3 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC with Rev. Rickey Peebles and Rev. Don Sanks officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Frances Wilson Dortch
Mrs. Frances Wilson Dortch, age 82, of Davisville, Fla., passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at her residence. She was born in Century, Fla. to Lonnie and Irma Adell Miller Wilson. She was a member of Pine Barren Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Clark Wilson and her sister, Oleda Steege.
Mrs. Dortch is survived by her husband, Franklin E. Dortch of Davisville; her son, Paul E. (Carolyn) Dortch of Poarch, Ala.; her daughters: Marliss Dortch of Davisville, Cathryn Dortch (Jimmy) Reynolds of Oak Grove, Fla., Charlotte Dortch (Doug) Purvis of Robinsonville, Ala. and Shannon Dortch (Michael) Doremus of Bratt, Fla.; ten grandchildren including CPL Logan Doremus in the United States Marine Corps and many great-grandchildren including PFC Austin Greenwood in the United States Army.
Graveside services will be held Friday, May 27, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Godwin Cemetery in Bratt with Dr. Tim Tew officiating. Interment will follow at Godwin Cemetery.

Mrs. Cathy Marie Nelson, age 63, passed away May 24, 2022 in Flomaton, Ala. She was born in Columbus, Ohio and resided most her life in Century, Fla. She enjoyed watching Old TV Shows, and Westerns and enjoyed going to Mardi Gras, creek and camping.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Roger and Maxine Woolver Scheurell; husband, Jimmy Nelson; two brothers, Roger Scheurell, and Ronnie Scheurell.
Mrs. Nelson is survived by her one son, Zach (Lacy) Nelson of Brewton, Ala.; two daughters, Amy (Jeremiah) Walston of Flomaton, Ala. and Amber (Dennis) Nelson, of McDavid, Fla.; three brothers, Tommy (Rose) Scheurell, Danny (Alana) Scheurell, all of Columbus, Ohio and Tony Scheurell, of Manitowoc, Wis.; one sister, Marilyn Ellis of Nelsonville, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Caitlyn Nelson, Anna Roberson, Xander Nelson, Somer Nelson, Gabe Nelson, Kendall Redkey, Christopher Fick, Destiny Fick; two great-grandchildren, Lil Frankie Nelson, Brexley Fick-Manners, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Mrs. Jeannine J. Wilson, age 67, passed away, Tuesday, May 24, 2022 in Mobile, Ala. She was born in Mineola, Ala. and resided most of her life in Bay Minette, Ala. She enjoyed spending time with her husband and family, studying the bible and riding in the “Model T”. She loved washing dishes and helping her husband with his Auto Mechanics Business.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dean W. and Sylvia Middleton Jarrell; one brother, Tony R. Jarrell.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by her loving husband of forty-nine years, William Wilson, of Bay Minette; one son, William D Wilson, Jr. of Atmore; one daughter, Shannon Wilson (Chris) Moats of Bay Minette; two brothers, Bobby Dean Jarrell of Appleton, Ala., Larry W, Jarrell of Bay Minette; three grandchildren, Lydia Moats, Jordan Jade Wilson, Cooper Wilson and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Fredrick DeWallace Longmire
Mr. Fredrick DeWallace Longmire, age 48, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Saturday, May 21, 2022 in Tampa Fla. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y. and a resident of Atmore for most of his life, he was a 1993 graduate of Escambia County High School. He had been reared in the Gaines Chapel AME Church in Atmore. He had attended Pensacola Junior College (PJC) where he graduated in cosmetology. He was an outgoing person.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace Longmire.
Mr. Longmire is survived by his mother, Shirley Porter Longmire of Atmore; two sisters, LaDana Longmire and Kelly Longmire Pleasant, both of Atmore; two loving nieces, Jordan Pleasant and Sanaa Pleasant, both of Atmore; cousins, and other family members.
The family will receive friends Friday, June 3, 2022 from 2 – 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

James “Jimmy” Wheeler Crook III
Mr. James “Jimmy” Wheeler Crook III, age 71, passed away Friday, May 27, 2022. He was a devoted citizen and community advocate for his hometown of Atmore, Ala. He served as a longstanding board member and ultimately as President of the Atmore Chamber of Commerce; as a board member of Escambia County Industrial Development Authority; as Finance Board Chair at Atmore First United Methodist Church; and President, Treasurer and Board Member of the Atmore Chapter of the Lions Club. As a result of his service, he received the prestigious Lions Club Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. He was a certified public accountant and retired from his position as partner at Waller, Crook, & Jones after over forty years of ardent commitment to his clients and their families; he was passionate about guiding and influencing others during good times and bad.
Mr. Crook met his wife while they were both students at Auburn University where he served as President of Pi Kappa Alpha. He could almost always be found wearing his favorite Auburn ball cap, a tribute not only to his time at Auburn but also to his lifelong love of the outdoors and to sports of all kinds. He spent countless hours coaching his children and teaching them his famous hook shot in basketball or the best way to get a base hit; he never missed a game. Mr. Crook loved to be in the quiet of nature: hunting, fishing, bird watching, or taking care of his yard. While he was generally a man of few words, his Valentine’s Day poems and wedding toasts always struck the perfect chord: sometimes rhyming, sometimes embarrassing, sometimes funny… but always touching and personal. He loved to rock babies, throw toddlers in the air, and teach his grandchildren to fish or wrestle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Wheeler Crook, Jr and Mattie Lou Brantley Crook.
Mr. Crook is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Carol Edwards Crook of Brewton, Ala.; his sisters, Deborah Crook Ray (Joe) of Montrose, Ala. and Patricia Crook Threadgill (Bill) of Pensacola, Fla.; his children, Carey Crook Miller (Jamie) of Huntsville, Ala., Lindsey Crook Cranford (Alex) of Newnan, Ga. and J. Wheeler Crook IV (Laura) of Montgomery, Ala.; as well as nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews

Mr. Jerry Wayne Mathis “Gator”, age 67, of Milton, Fla., passed away Saturday, May 28, 2022 in Milton. He was born in Century, Fla. and resided in Brownsdale, Fla. most of his life. He was a mechanic for many years. He was an avid Alabama football fan. He enjoyed going fishing, hunting, and he loved playing Bingo and going to the Casino’s.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James O Pete (Mary Helen Moore) Mathis and his wife Shelia Dunsford Mathis.
Mr. Mathis is survived by his two sons, Marcus (Cindy) Mathis, of Byrneville, Fla. and Jamie (Jennifer) Mathis of Pace, Fla.; one daughter, Gidget (Jeremy) Dortch, of Flomaton; one step-daughter, Kendra Bonner of Century; two brothers, James O’Dooley (Vivian) Mathis, of Century and Johnny Mathis of McDavid, Fla.; five sisters, Mildred (Danny) Higdon of Flomaton, Evelyn (Bill) Cozart and Kathy Simmons, all of Jay, Fla., Peggy McDonald and Gayle (Chuck) Aldridge, all of Century; eight grandchildren, Shae Dortch, Cody Mathis, Ryan FL; Reeves, Zoey Bonner, Zakiah Lowery, Addie Mathis, Brynnlee Mathis and Piper Mathis; one great-grandchild, Josie Lynn Mathis; other relatives and friends.

Paula Mauldin Watson
Mrs. Paula Mauldin Watson, age 59, of Bratt, Fla.; passed away, Friday, May 27, 2022 in Pensacola, Fla. She was born in Pensacola and resided most of her life in Bratt, Fla. She was an avid Alabama football fan. She enjoyed Christmas, loved going to the beach and spending time at her swimming pool. She loved her dog Chief.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul G. and Margaret Blanton Mauldin; two brothers, William Mauldin and Gary Mauldin.

Rev. Claudeen Kimmons, age 86, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022 in Brewton, Ala. She was born in Canoe, Ala. and resided most her life in Byrneville, Fla. She was a member of Ebenezer Church. She enjoyed preaching, spreading the gospel, sewing, fishing and her flower garden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Ester Mae Burkette Boutwell; husband of sixty-five years, Charles “Bud” Kimmons; one son, Tim Kimmons; two sisters, Margie Brown and Luleen Tollin; three brothers, Marvlee Dukes, Alton Ray Boutwell and Levon Boutwell.
Rev. Kimmons is survived by her four sons, Charles (Kathy) Kimmons, Donnie (Linda) Kimmons, all of Pensacola, Fla., Bernie (Shelia) Kimmons, of Cedar Bluff, Ala. and Doug (Melinda) Kimmons of Andalusia, Ala.; one daughter,

Charlene Norman
Mrs. Charlene Norman, age 71, passed away, Tuesday, May 24, 2022 in Brewton, Ala. She was born in Century, Fla. and resided most of her life in Flomaton, Ala. She retired as a Warehouse Clerk with Florida Department of Corrections with many years of employment. She was a member of Flomaton First Baptist Church.
She enjoyed caring for her dogs, cooking, cleaning, sewing and really enjoyed traveling.
She was preceded in death by her father Charles Ellis.
Mrs. Norman is survived by her loving husband of nineteen years, Mitchell Norman of Flomaton; one son, Kevin (Annie) Bishop of Pinellas, Fla.; two step-sons, Brent Norman of Gainesville, Fla. and Blaine Norman of Lake Butler, Fla; one sister, Cheryl Ellis, of Bandera, Texas; three grandchildren, Taryn Norman, Nadia Norman, Perry Norman, other relatives and friends.

Sheila Marie McGhee Caraway
Ms. Sheila Marie McGhee Caraway, age 47, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022. She was born to John Arthur McGhee and Bernice Tripp McGhee. She was a life-long resident of the Poarch Community where she lived and worked having spent almost 10 years working for the Creek Bingo Palace. She loved her family fiercely especially her three children Miranda, Mason and Maggie and her granddaughter Emilia Pearl. She also had a love for animals. Her dog Bailey brought her much comfort and joy as later in life her medical issues limited her mobility. At her best, she had a magnetic personality full of laughter and conversation. She was kind and humble and never once met a stranger. Throughout her life of highs and lows she tried to maintain hope that her life would improve with the help of Our Lord and the support of her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Arthur McGhee; maternal grandparents, Pearl Carolina Tripp and William Tripp; paternal grandparents, Luna Mae McGhee and Doris “Buck” McGhee; beloved daughter, Maggie Pearl Caraway; and brother-in-law, James “Jimmy” Dean.
Ms. Caraway is survived by her mother, Bernice Tripp McGhee of Poarch, Ala; three sisters, Brenda (Michael) Johnson of LaGrange, Ga., Sherry (Kenneth) Howell of Helena, Ala., Kimberly McGhee Dean Atmore, Ala.; one daughter Miranda (Brandon) Hudson of Saraland, Ala.; one son, Mason (Catie) Dean of Auburn, Ala.; one granddaughter, Emilia Pearl of Saraland; three nephews, Jon (Malori) Dean, James (Emily) Dean, all of Atmore and Nicholas Howell, of Helena, Ala.; two nieces, Olivia (Thomas) Morgan of Atlanta, Ga. and Sophia Howell of Helena; one great-nephew, Porter James Dean of Atmore; two great- nieces Carson Elizabeth Johnson and Mallie Claire Dean, all of Atmore.

Viola Willornease Wooten
Mrs. Viola Willornease Wooten (Mawmaw), age 89, lifelong resident of Atmore, Ala. passed away peacefully in her home Friday, May 27, 2022. She was a graduate of Flomaton High School and then worked at Vanity Fair for a number of years. Later in life, she worked for Escambia County as a bus driver. She was a member of Robinsonville Baptist Church. She was an adamant follower of Jesus Christ, and did her best to instill that in every person she came into contact with.
She was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman. Her family believes that she was more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her. She draws on her strength. Her hands reach out to the poor and she extends her hands to the needy. Her mouth speaks wisdom and loving instruction. She watches over the activities of her household and is never idle. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also praises her. A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Obin Smith and Bobby Lee (Sonny) Smith and one great-grandson, Drake Boutwell.
Mrs. Wooten is survived by her loving husband of sixty-seven years, Clark Wooten; her brother, Gladden (Ruthie) Smith of Atmore; her children, Danny (Mary Jean) Sanspree and Don (Lila) Wooten, all of Birmingham, Ala., Gail (Randall) Miller and Bobby (Cheryl) Wooten, all of Little Rock, Ala., Judy Wooten Pouncey of Stapleton, Ala., Debbie (Tony) Patterson of Canoe, Ala.; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and six great-great- grandchildren; sisters-in-law Jean (Joe) Pennington of Spanish Fort, Ala. and Adeline Rhinehart of Canoe..

Ms. Betty Jones, of Brewton, Ala., passed away Friday, May 27, 2022 at Atmore Community Hospital.

Dorothy Jean Peter
Mrs. Dorothy Jean Peter, age 64, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, May 20, 2022 after a brief illness. She was born to the later Jennie Mae and Joseph Russell. She attended Escambia County Training High School in Atmore. She relocated to Boston, Ma. marrying and raising her family. She worked at Carney Hospital in Dorchester, Ma. for over fifteen years. She and her new husband moved back to Atmore and she worked for Escambia County School system. Then back to Georgia where she joined St. Paul AME Worship Center serving in the Women’s Choir and the Usher Board. She enjoyed traveling, going to the casinos, movies, social gatherings, seafood and Chinese restaurants.
Mrs. Peter is survived by three children, Sharit (Cedric Russell, Ronnie (Angie) Etienne and Gwendolyn Etienne (William Acree); host of grandchildren; four siblings, Lesa (James) America, Sharon Russell, Eugene Autrey, Wilbert Autrey and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and special friends.
Memorial services were held Thursday, May 26, 2002 at 6:30 p.m. at Horis A. Ward Fairview Chapel, Stockbridge, Ga.
