A Baldwin County woman who allegedly stole money from the person with whom she had been living in Atmore, surrendered to county jail officials May 17 after learning that a warrant had been issued for her arrest.
Atmore Police Department Sgt. Darrell McMann reported that 49-year-old Sharell Shivers McGhee of Bay Minette had called May 5 and requested that police be on hand while she retrieved her personal property from the residence.
McGhee apparently took a little more than her personal property. Reports show that “after McGhee left the property, the victim discovered that some cash was missing from a drawer.”
An APD investigator signed a warrant charging McGhee with one count of third-degree theft of property, a Class D felony that occurs when the stolen property’s value exceeds $500 but does not exceed $1,499.
A conviction on such a charge could result in no less than one year and one day in prison, up to five years. A fine of $7,500 could also be assessed.
McGhee was released on bond the same day she turned herself in.
