Atmore’s official Spring festival, Mayfest, will return full-throttle this Saturday, May 7, after suffering through COVID-related issues the past two years.
The festival, which traditionally draws several thousand people to the city, is one of Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce’s biggest events. It will be at Tom Byrne Park and will last from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Organizers promise “something for everyone,” including live music and entertainment at the park’s gazebo, the popular baton twirlers, a softball tournament and the return of the Beautiful Baby Contest.
The annual Miss Mayfest Pageant will also be a part of the festivities, although it will take place from 6-9 p.m. Friday, May 6, in Escambia County High’s auditorium.
Saturday’s festival also features numerous vendors displaying and selling arts and crafts, “festival food” and other wares, many of them hand-crafted. There will also be informational booths, and several political candidates are expected to have booths.
There will also be a special play area that features several physical activities for youngsters.
For more details, or for directions to the festival grounds, call the Chamber at 251-368-3305 or email questions to Director@AtmoreChamber.com.
