An Atmore woman was charged with felony theft after she attempted to leave the local Walmart with more than $500 worth of items for which she had not paid.
According to Atmore Police Department reports, the incident happened around 10:45 a.m. last Wednesday, March 23.
Police who responded to a reported shoplifting incident to find that Walmart employees had stopped 48-year-old Linda Evans Myers as she was attempting to leave the store without paying for the shopping cart full of items she was pushing.
The total amount of the items was more than $500, and Myers was charged with one count of third-degree theft of property.
Theft in the third degree is a Class D felony that under Alabama law carries a penalty, upon conviction, of “imprisonment of no less than one year and a day, up to five years, a fine up to $7,500, or both.”
Myers was booked into the Escambia County Detention Center, where she remained Monday, March 28, under bond of $5,000.
