Two Escambia County men, one sentenced to life behind bars for murder and the other a habitual violator of state drug laws, will each spend at least five more years in prison.
During recent hearings the Alabama Board of Pardons & Paroles again denied early release for convicted killer Jerry L. Hicks, now 60, and for 36-year-old Quentin Orlandor Galloway.
Hicks was convicted in 1984 and has been in state custody for 38 years, including 252 days in the county jail. He has now been considered for and denied parole six times.
The Alabama Department of Corrections website shows only that Hicks was convicted of murder in Escambia County Circuit Court and sentenced to life with the chance of parole. An exhaustive online search failed to produce the name of Hicks’s victim or the exact date of his crime.
Currently housed at Limestone Correctional Facility, Hicks will next be eligible for parole in 2027.
Galloway, who lived in East Brewton when he was most recently imprisoned, was sentenced in 2010 to a 20-year term after his conviction for distribution of a controlled substance. He also received a concurrent sentence of 10 years for possession of a controlled substance.
ADOC records show that he has served slightly more than nine years and a month, including 405 days in jail. Escambia County Detention Center records reveal that Galloway has been arrested seven times since 2009, mainly on drug charges.
Five of the arrests came while he was a state inmate, and all his crimes were reportedly committed in Escambia County. His minimum release date without pardon or parole is December 11, 2032.
