It is finally football season, and Northview High School began this year with a pre-season jamboree against the Baker Gators. Friday, August 20, was one wet night. Fans all across the stands were in ponchos and sporting umbrellas to come out and support their Chiefs!
In the first half, Ernest Ward Middle School played against one of Baker’s younger teams. Unfortunately, the final score was 16 to 6, and the Gators took home the win.
Northview played the second half of the game. The final score of the game was 13-0, with the Gators earning the win.
“It was a wet, sloppy night for us,” junior Luke Bridges said. “We will get back to work this week as hard as we can to get some things fixed. We know we are going to have a tremendous season. No one needs to count us out!”
Fans and players alike are hopeful for this upcoming season.
Although Northview lost, the game was great exposure for the players, allowing them to get the feel for this upcoming season.
Coach Wesley Summerford said, “I am so excited about this season! We have taken on a tougher schedule this year, but it will give us a good indicator along the way of where we are.”
Northview has a busy schedule this year with ten games. Even though the Chiefs did not win, they still had some good runs. Jamarkus Jefferson, a junior, was the player of the night on offense and defense according to Coach Summerford. “Jefferson had some good runs, but played even better at inside backer on defense,” the coach said.
The outcome Friday night was not what everyone had hoped for, but this season is only beginning. The Chiefs will actually face the Baker Gators again on September 24, later on in the season. For now, coaches, fans, and players are excited about this year.
Next week, the Chiefs will travel to Flomaton to play the rivaled Hurricanes. It’s going to be a great match. See y’all there, it starts at 7!
